We have been doing CIO at bedtimes the girls will only fuss or cry abit for 10 mins but tonight she was wailing and wailing it was like day 1 again, it got to nearly an hour and i gave in and went to check on her. She was hysterical, i picked her up to calm her down and she threw up everywhere. I rocked her abit and put her down at which point Amber woke up so i stroked her head and left the room. Thankfully they are both finally sleeping and I'm glad i went in as she would probably of vomitted in her bed otherwise but i'm worried about the consequences of tonight? Do you think it will be like starting over again tommorow..by that i mean hours of screaming again? It's hard i checked on her because i know her teeth have been troubling her, how do you handle CIO when they are sick?

Liz, I think it was probably just a minor setback, not like starting over again. Are you giving her anything for her teething pain? When they are truly sick(colds, flu, etc) I go to them if they cry in the night. It might mean doing a little backtracking, but that's ok.

I didn't let them CIO when they were sick (not that you knew she was sick at the time!). I just didn't have it in me and felt like they really needed me. Yes, sometimes it's a minor setback on the whole CIO program but usually it was short-lived and wasn't like starting over. I hope she's feeling better soon, poor thing.

 Sorry that happened to you. I do not do CIO when they are sick. I hope she is feeling better tonight and goes to sleep for you easily.

    Hi Becky,

I hope so because they have been doing so well. Yes i have her dosed up on paracetomol and Ibruprofen for her teeth i feel bad for them both. If it's not illness it's teeth in this house! When you've had to backtrack with your lo's did it ever take as much as when you started out?

:hug:thankyou Tina! I agree, when they are ill they need me it's not like crying because they don't want to go to sleep is it. Hopefully it wont take much re-training, they have proven to ba fast learners before so fingers crossed and welcome to the 1st year :)

Lia does this to me too. I get her in a good pattern and then she starts all over again. She does it at night and at nap. No reason from what I can tell. We call her Pissy Poodle (why?-because she's PISSY all the time. she has high demands. She's the littlest but will be the loudest.)! No advice, just there with ya.

i've never found it takes much to re-train. usually one night & the crying is usually less intense & for a shorter period of time. GL!
