CIO before or after surgery?

DH and I are definitely going to re-visit CIO with the girls and plan on getting the new HSHHT book as a guide. However, I have a delima. Aurora will have hernia surgery on 6/24. It is out-patient surgery and she should recover quickly. I'm just wondering if we should try the CIO before then or wait until she is recovered.

    Any suggestions?

I would probably wait a week or two. You may not know if she is crying in pain or doing CIO. Some kids get really worked up too and she may strain some muscles affected by the surgery. I hope the surgery goes smoothly and the recovery is super quick!

Oh Dainelle, sorry she has to have surgery!
Logan had hernia surgey too and I hated the thought of having to even go back to the hosptial and we had to stay overnight and weren't perpared. His surgery was done from a Dr at the Children's Nemours(I'm not spelling it right.)
I wish you the best of luck!
With the CIO I would wait too until at leat 2 weeks after the surgery.

Again, Best Wishes for a speedy recovery!

I think I would wait until a couple of weeks after surgery too. The surgery might throw her off, causing you to have to do it over again anyway. Best of luck with the surgery, let us know how it goes.

Thanks ladies, you all have confirmed what I thought was best too.

Nadana - we'll be using the Nemour's surgeon as well. Hopefully, we won't be there overnight, but I'll definitely prepare just in case. That thought hadn't even crossed my mind before, so thank you! I know we're in good hands and her NICU nurses and my nurses from antepardum have scheduled to be there....they're just the best!

Yes, Sacred Heart is a great hospital and everyone is so very nice and pleasant! couldn't ask for a better place for sure!
I know if you feel like I did I cried when I had to bring Logan in there again after getting him out of the NICU.
She'll do great and everything will go smooth (praying you won't have to stay the night!) The pre-admission/Sched. nurse at Nemours had told us that we wouldn't then, the Dr after the surgery said yes, we would. It was alittle crazy that afternoon!
Best Wishes and keep us posted.

I would actually say do it now. You have a couple weeks to get her sleeping well, and sleep is very necessary and restorative after surgery. When Jack had his recirc, the temptation was to just cuddle him 24/7, but the hospital staff actually impressed upon us that we should not do that - we should have him sleep as normal in his crib for naps and night and not disrupt his routine during recovery. That said, he still took a 4 hour nap on my lap when we came home from the hospital, but after that he napped as normal.

    Good luck either way!
