CIO at 4 months?

For those parents that have done the CIO, do you think 4 months is too early to do this? I recall seeing a post a while back with a link to the Sleep Training section, but can no longer find it. I know there are a couple different versions of CIO (going back in to quicky rub backs and the extinction), what does everyone recommend?

Any advice for me? I'm going to brave this alone as my DH will be in Vegas next weekend, so I figure its as a good as time as any. I will have help staying with me for the weekend for support.

The First Year Handbook would be a good place to start. It's at the top of the forum page in the first year. You can click here to go there now. There are several links to click on with information about sleep training and CIO.

As a side note, we started at 4.5 months with Emma (didn't need to for Lauren). It took us about 10 nights, and they were HARD, but she has been sleeping about 12 hours per night since.

IMO 4 months is too early to sleep train. Plus you need to take into account if they were born early. They are still learning how to self soothe. And if you are doing it because they are waking at night to eat...well then the probably still are hungry and need to eat. I think you can re-evaluate closer to 6 months. JMHO.

I Think it's too early. Are they even on solids yet?
Mind started sleeping through the night the day they started solids.

IMO too early -- we started our nap schedule at this time, but didn't CIO until 7 months (6 months adjusted age). They just seemed too small to do it any earlier. And they were hungry, too!

I agree. Too early, I wouldnt even consider it before 6 months and even that would be iffy. We had to do it for a few days when my twins were 10 months old. They were literally getting up every 15 mins around the clock and I couldnt take it anymore!

My babies are almost 4mnths, and we are using a bit of CIO for naps (5-10min max of crying), but I am not comfortable using it at night to cut-out feedings, but would be comfortable using it if my babies were up every 15min to at least cut down the number of times you have to get up - that being said we are lucky, we feed our babies at night and they go right back to sleep, so we don't need to use cio during the night. However, I do let my dd cry for 5-10min when we first put her to bed, as she seems to need to do this before falling asleep.
