I've been thinking about what to buy for my boys for Christmas and I can't find anything that really works for what will be 3 month old babies at that time. I don't want to buy things they can't play with until they are a year or more, but there's not much out there for that age. Should I just do toys for 6 months and up?

What do people generally do around this age?

    Thanks for any ideas,

    Michelle

Mine were a litle older at Christmas last year (5 months), but still most things other people bought them were 9 or 12 months things. The best gift was a load of onesies...my mom bought them long and short sleeved onesies from 6-18 months and it's been fantastic. I don't always put them in them, but it was great to have them in so many sizes because I haven't had to buy a single one and I always had something to throw under a shirt if it was chilly or to let them just wear if it was hot. My mom liked it because she doesn't live nearby so it was nice for them to have something from her on a lot instead of an outfit they'd wear twice and grow out of, KWIM?

For toys, mine loved the inchworm toy and another lamaze spider toy that I can't seem to find to link to it. They also loved rattly/crinkly/squeaky bugs, all of which are from age birth up. They were really their favorite things around 3-6 months when they were becoming so much more aware and loved all of the different noises and bright colors. IMO, I would get a couple of things like this that they can play with now because they will enjoy looking at them and crinkling/shaking them when they can do it, but maybe tell others to gt 6 months and up so you don't have a ton of stuff that they'll outgrow right away. I held on to some things and just kept bringing out new toys all year, lol!

I know this probably won't be a ton of help, but my twins were born in September & that Christmas I really didn't get them anything. They were too young to know the difference and I figured I would save myself the money that first year. :pardon:

My dd was born in september, and we bought her an exersaucer from santa, and then a few smaller toys. She couldn't open them, and we already had baby toys from my older ds so we didn't need much for her.

They are so young and they aren't going to care what you get them. So if they need clothes, get them clothes. If they need some baby toys, get them. If they need older toys, get them instead! :) Just get what they need, trust me it's probably the one and only christmas you will be able to buy them something that isn't a toy and they won't care! ;)

We didn't get our September babies anything that first Christmas, but my parents got them a few things. They couldn't use any of them until about 10 months though. You can always get board books. Maybe a special "Twas the Night Before Christmas" book to read each year. If you don't have an exersaucer or Jumperoo yet, I'd go for that if you want something big. Oh yeah, do they have a playmat? We got one in January and I wish I had it earlier. I found this when I was looking for the playmat link and it looks like it would be great for tummy time!

I picked up a few gel teethers and a few toys for 3+ months. I may add some diapers and formula too :) I am not going out this year because they will be only 3 months, next year, oh boy look out from all angles! Should be a chaotic mess

I would only buy them what they really need - clothes, toys, etc. Do they have a playmat? That was a big hit here from 3-6 months.

My hubby and I were discussing this the other day. I think we may get them an outfit or something small like that but that will be all this year. They are really too young to know the difference and besides that we have 3 other children to buy for! lol

Yup, we've got 2 playmates... and a tunnel for when they're older. I'm a huge Goodwill/yard saler, now, out of necessity. :p This also takes care of the clothes... I really enjoy buying them cute used outfits. I think they may be set until the 6th grade, LOL. I just want to get some smallish toys that they'll enjoy basically from Christmas until their birthday... I like that caterpillar- thanks for the suggestion!

Another idea is some kind of keepsake...maybe a family portrait session and do handprints to frame would be something they wonèt appreciate until much older but you can enjoy :)

My babies were born in September we got them an exersaucer and a jumperoo. Tummy time playmats are also a good idea. They also received wrist and ankle rattles as a stocking stuffer and they loved them. Get whatever you think they might like now or might need in the future, if you want to buy them anything. And take lots of pictures!

My boys were born on Aug 27th, and we are asking one set of grandparents for their high chairs. Another idea that I had, was asking for their next car seat. My DS outgrew his at 7 months, and it is a pretty big cost, esp for 2. My whole view is go practical! Diapers, Wipes, Formula, etc. We already have a 2 year old son so I gave all the grandparents specific instructions- NO TOYS!!

    :)

The early toys my boys loved were the crinkle/rattle/jingle animals. The stick on toys for the highchair and bumbo tray seats were nice too. We had a little wedge shape toy with a mirror on one side that they really liked until they could crawl too. Pretty much anything they can chew on was a good find for the first year or so. I can't think of anything big for before they are one.

I agree with you! my girls were born in July and I am not even getting them anything. Its there first Christmas, so family & friends will get them more than enough. So I definitely sitting this one out. :) Saving money for sure!

So I think I know what we're going to get this year.... Life insurance!

DH & I have never had it, the babies don't have it yet and it's something totally boring we'll never be able to 'buy' for them again.

Oh and that caterpiller toy... the boys deserve some fun, right?

We got 2 TinyLove Playmats for them for Christmas (they were 3 months then)...at this point (13months) they outgrew the mat, but love the toys.
2 of them are now loveys...and the toy mirror is pure genius for meltdowns & resistant diaperchanges.
TinyLove used to offer a twins discount, but discontinued it Feb 2009.
TinyLove did not pay me to say any of this...I just love their playmats :)

Oops! I just read thru the posts better... you already have playmats. Um, what else did they like? They liked books & blocks.

Mine were 5 weeks old at Christmas and I actually didn't get them anything. We had so many baby gifts already, and I knew my extended family would get them things (they mostly got 6-month clothes and 6-12 month toys). But all I wanted was sleep -- I could barely think beyond that. Maybe at 3 months it's a little different. But I don't think you have to go all-out unless you want to -- it's so much more fun to give them gifts when they are old enough to be excited about it!

I also have my birthday around Christmas, and the only thing I could think of to ask for for myself was "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." You can tell what was on my mind.
