Christmas gift for school bus driver?

We always give a coffee-shop gift card to our mailman and paper carrier (both of whom are awesome and friendly). It struck me today that the boys' school bus driver this year is the same way. She has a happy greeting each morning, apologizes and gives explanations for being even a few minutes late, and is great with the kids. I never thought about it with other bus drivers, but she goes above and beyond just like the mailman and paper carrier.

Have you ever given the school bus driver a holiday gift? Does that seem weird?

I know I really appreciated gifts from my passengers. I wasn't a school bus driver, but a bus driver. My likely gift givers were my elderly passengers. They would just tuck some cash into a card.

Only my oldest DD rides the bus. She writes an appreciative note on a Christmas Card, and we give him home baked cookies. This is the same thing she does for all (7!) of her teachers.

I would! I trust my child's life to the person who drives his bus  . It helps that I really like her :) . I think cash is better than junk...kwim? A crisp $10 or $20 bill in a card that says how much you appreciate her!

I do give the children's bus driver a gift. A little disclaimer though, I have known her for many years and she has twins the same age as mine so technically she is more than the bus driver but I get movie passes from Regal that are two tickets plus $10 worth of food. I give her two sets of those (thinking that way she could have two date nights or she, her DH and the twins could all go to a movie). I think they are the coolest gift, getting the free tickets and money for food too!

Well mine WOULD get some of my homemade candies, but I won't see him until next year! Usually I have had the girls make him cards or given him a plate of cookies, he is the same driver these two have had for three years and has been great. He is the one who took care of Holly when she was put on the wrong bus and sent home despite a note to go elsewhere last spring.

Sean only rode the bus for a year in Ohio but his bus driver was sweet. I baked cookies for her.

No, not weird, I've given gifts before. Usually candy. Because I like candy, so I figure everyone likes candy. This year it was a small gift card to McDonald's (it's a male and I didn't know what to get him).

I was thinking of doing a McDonald's gift card too for our driver.

I also thought of waiting until the end of the year and giving him a nice dinner out to a good restaurant.

I need to make up my mind soon. lol

What a wonderful idea! It’s a thoughtful way to show appreciation for someone who clearly puts extra effort into their job and cares about the kids. A small gift like a coffee-shop card or something practical could brighten their holiday season. Services like Working Advantage can even have discounts on gifts if you need ideas. It’s great to recognize the people who make a positive difference every day!
