Hi everyone! I'm bouncing over early because I feel like this question might be better suited over here. :good:

There are certain things my girls have been doing themselves everyday for a while now...getting dressed, brushing teeth, clearing their dishes, cleaning up toys, to name a few. They are always asking me “what’s next” and "what else" so I thought it’s a great time to make up a chore chart so they can see what is left to do and when.

Can any of you share one that you might have made up or purchased? I have a good idea where I want to start but would like to see what else is out there.

    Thanks so much!

I should add that I'm obviously looking for something with pictures since they aren't readers yet. :thanks:

Michelle, try the Melissa &Doug one. We have been using it for over a year.

Ooh, I love that!! And as I typed the original post I was thinking it should be something other than "chore" chart. I like that they call it a "responsibility" chart. :good:

That M&D one is very cute -- my only problem is that I can't imagine trying to remember, at the end of a day, which responsibilities were fulfilled or not. (I had enough trouble when we did a sticker chart for not having tantrums -- and that was only one thing: "Did you have a tantrum today or not?" )

For what it's worth, I've thought of doing a simple list, rather than a reward/magnet/sticker system. For instance, at school, they have a big poster that lists the steps for getting ready to go outside:
    1. Go potty
    2. Wash hands
    3. Put on snow pants
    4. Put on coat
    5. Put on boots and hat
    6. Put on mittens
At each step, it includes a picture of one of the kids doing that step.

I might do something similar for getting ready for bed:
    1. Pick out tomorrow's clothes
    2. Pick out PJs
    3. Change into PJs
    4. Pick out stories to read... (etc.)

I just get so confused with trying to remember whether they get a reward or not, and then it's just one more thing for me to keep track of -- this seems like it might be a good middle ground. They would have the list to refer to, and I could say, "If all the things on the list are done in 15 minutes, we'll have time for an extra story," or whatever.

That's a great idea. :good: I'm not looking to use it as a reward system at all, but more as a visual aid for them to see what needs to be done during the day.
