One of my girls tends to randomly choke on nothing. She starts gagging and almost pukes (she gets that tounge out heaving look to her). She never throws up when she does it, and luckily I have been around for every episode, but it is starting to freak me out...It happens more at night when she is asleep. She seems to be able to get over it quick but I usually still flip her to her side and pat her back a little harder than I would if I were burping her. I can't think of anytime that it has happened during the day. Does anyone know what it could be? She doesn't seem to be sick or anything (no fever, stuffy nose, or cough or anything)

Does she have any other signs or reflux? Could it be related to that? Have you tried elevating her bed? I would definitely call the doctor.

No signs of reflux. My first daughter had very bad reflux and was on zantac and was SUPER colicky. The twins have nothing compared to her. They rarely spit up even when drinking their milk. Their bed is already elevated (because I was scared of ending up with reflux babies since my daughter was, but when they didn't have signs of it, I still kept their bed elevated). This is why I am so confused. If they had reflux, I could chalk it up to that, but I really don't think thats it...it doesn't seem to bother her at all...once she stops, she is already back to sleep...like it happens IN her sleep. hmmmm....I keep telling my husband its like she is trying to swallow her tounge or something, but it doesn't happen during the day?!?!

My daughter Ava would have choking spells as well and the pedi seemed to think she was just choking on some spit up. She would usually (but not always) cough something up when the spell was over. It hasn't happened in a while so I hope it was just a stage. It would happen in her sleep and during the day so not sure if it's the same thing your DD is going through. I would definitely bring it up with your pedi just to be sure.
