I haven't been on TS for a few weeks due to several things. First, we had a major windstorm here in Seattle as many of you saw from a previous post, then Chloe was in the hospital for 3 days, and then the holiday. We lost power for a week (thank goodness for my dad's generator they gave us - it powered our entire house). I was too out of it and stressed out about her going into the hospital to realize I have DSL, and not cable, so I could've gotten online, but I'm a dork. [IMG]

Chloe was admitted to Swedish hospital in Seattle on the 21st of Dec. for a scheduled surgery to remove a blockage (or kink) from the tube leading from her left kidney to her bladder. Her kidney was only functioning at 20%, so the doctor recommended surgery as soon as possible. Chloe was diagnosed in utero at 20 weeks with hydronephrosis (excess fluid retention) in both kidneys. Test done around 3 mo old showed she had reflux in both kidneys, which she'll outgrow, but that her left kidney was possibly blocked. A lasix renogram test about 6 weeks ago confirmed the blockage, hence the surgery was scheduled.

Needless to say, I was a wreck and completely stressed out. She is doing great now, and they said everything went very well and she should not have any more issues with her kidney. 2 hours after her surgery, she was sitting up, wanting to play, and was even smiling and flirting with the nurses when she woke up in the recovery room! It amazes me how resilient they are at that age. Any adult would have been completely miserable. I even heard adults in the adult recovery room next door moaning and crying like babies, but she was smiling and giggling when she woke up. How wierd is that?!

She has been tender, and for the next day or two after surgery, you could tell her side was bothering her, but we kept on top of the Tylenol to help her feel better. She's almost back to her normal self now, but we're still working on getting her back to her original formula intake, which has dropped off because she was constipated after surgery.

Bryce is just as vocal and demanding as ever (what is it with the screaming non-stop?!). [IMG]

So, that's the update on her and hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

Glad to hear that everyone is doing well. It is amazing how babies bounce back from surgery. Here's to speedy recovery for her.

I'm glad she is home and doing well. We were lucky-only two days without power but it certainly taught us that we need to be better prepared. I'm glad your dad had a generator you could use!

Carina- glad to hear she is doing better!!! Since Eli had that surgery in Oct he has been the happiest baby! They tried to tell me he didn't even know it was there but I can't help but notice how much happier he is since it's been corrected. We also knew about it in utero. Does she have a drainage tube and bag? I found that a PIA but he only had it for 10 days. We go back in March for a VCUG to see how it looks and hopefully will be the end of the story!

I'm so glad it's behind you. I think it's harder on the parents than the babies. They bounce back so fast!!

Thanks everyone for the warm wishes.

Stephe - Chloe has actually been grumpier since surgery, but I chalk that up to being uncomfortable, and playing mommy for all she can since I've been babying her since she's been home. As my FIL says, she has my number and knows how to use it [IMG].

She didn't come home with a drain, they actually removed that the day after surgery. She was only in the hospital for three days total (including the day of admittance and discharge). She goes back in six weeks for a follow up lasix renogram test, and then she'll be done thank goodness.

I'm sorry to hear that Eli had to have the drainage tube/bag for so long. I'm not sure what the difference was in the surgery to have that be a requirement for him for so long compared to Chloe. Sounds like he's doing really well and I'm glad to hear he is a happy baby! [IMG]
