Ive read A LOT of good things about pediatric chiropractic care, Im curious if anyone here has tried it?
How old was your little one? what was the outcome? why did you initially take them in?

our DD will be 9 months old on the 4th and she's going for her first time in 2 weeks.

I have a friend that took her DD in at around 3 months old for reflux, and she claims it worked wonders!! She now swears by it. I have never tried it, so I have no personal experience.

When I was pregnant, I went to a chiropractor who had infants as patients and she swore they did wonderfully with it. I never took either of my kids in for chiropractic services though.

No experience here. But out of curiousity, what would the chiropractor do? And what does he/she help with? Pretty fascinating to me. I think of chiropractor and I think of someone cracking my back. LOL!

I took the girls to a chiropractor when they were a few weeks (whenever colic starts), it was to help with the colic and it did, they don't do the big adjustments like they do on adults of course, but more gentle manipulations. Last year we took Jessica back as she was having some neck pain turns out she had whiplash from gymnastics, they did gentle traction and manipulations, took about 3 weeks and she's been fine since. I do go myself on a regular basis too.

I took both boys when they were three months old. They screamed all the time so I thought I would try anything. turns out one of the boys had torticollis and the chiropractor helped him lots!!! There wasn't much they could do for the other because they couldn't find anything wrong but I took him back three months later when he was experiencing tight muscles and they worked on his back and hips and got him to be a little looser. We had great success and would do it again.

I am a non-believer. I think it's one of those "things" that you just think is helping because someone is telling you that it is. I believe it's the placebo effect.

Ok have to disagree here, I can go in with a major headache and get my neck adjusted and get instant relief. And with kids how can it be placebo effect I noticed a difference in them, they didn't get told it helps they are too young.

I have to disagree, as well. I have had horrible back and neck issues in the past, so bad that I couldn'l lay my head back. The chiropractor has helped me so much that I am once again able to lean my head back, something I at one time could not do.

As far as for children, I took my son when he was 2 because he had developed a horrible neck spasm. The chiropractor helped tremendously, but we only had to go once.

In the case of a child, it would be the parent that "thought" it was fixed- like with colic-- "oh it fixed him instantly".

I hear about how it fixes kids all of the time tho so maybe it does. I honestly don't know anything about it, I just find it hard to believe that's all I'm saying. I have nothing against people that go to them or anything like that :)

I have limited experience on a personal level and I guess it was scary enough that I just stay away.

I have a REALLLLLLY bad back, I injured it in a car accident when I was 14 years old and did traction and rehab etc.. Anyway, LOTS of bad stuff, had a complete fracture etc. YEARS of PT..

Well, I went to a Chiropractor 15 yrs later ONCE and the guy did a BUNCH of cool stuff and honestly- I LOVED IT-- he cracked me and made me "taller" llol, and it was nice.

The next week, I had my yearly visit w/ my Neurologist for my neck and back and he told me that I was lucky I was not paralyzed! He said people with back problems should NEVER EVER under any circumstances go to a chiropractor. They could be paralyzed in a moment and frankly, even perfectly healthy people could be. Needless to say, this was my last visit!

So.. perhaps I am jaded but I stay away and I really think it might work for some people and even if it just seems to work- that's just as good! Like I said, I did enjoy going!

I took my little Bean into the chiro today for her reflux. He just did some baby massage to try to relax her diaphragm, which he said could constrict the esophagus, and he also worked on her neck muscles. She does seem to be eating more comfortably since then. We'll see how it goes, but I can tell you one thing, she loved it and she hasn't been the happiest camper lately. I'll keep taking her in if he can improve her grumpies - ha.

ETA: P.S. By the way, two things: this chiro has a lactation consultant and doula on staff, so I am also going to see her in case she has any suggestions re: the reflux. And, I like that he is very knowledgeable about GI conditions and medications; we are going to try to get a handle on the reflux and wean her from her meds... But he wants to be very cautious because we don't want the acid to damage her esophageal tract.

I had a hard time believing in chiropractic care myself (I thought it was SUCH a racket), until I started having back problems from my desk job. I began chiropractic treatment and it truly saved me. I got regular adjustments throughout my twin pregnancy and had zero problems (save for placenta previa, which resolved itself) and carried them to 38w when I had my C. Yes, maybe I wouldn't have had any issues anyway, but I'd do it again in a second!

If I had an extremely fussy or inconsolable baby, or a reflux baby, the chiropractor would be one of my first stops. I too have heard about the beneficial effects of chiropractic on reflux infants.
