Okay Ladies you are the experts. I am such a planner that I feel that I need to get started with this. Well, at least have an idea of what our plan is going to be. WHat do you think will be best. We are planning on using the techniques in Babywise. DH and I work wed-Sat. We are thinking that we will need childcare from 1pm to 7pm. Do you think that it would be better for the children to have a nanny to come to the house or use a daycare?

Where do I find this information to find the better fit for us? Are there any nannies out there that are trained and not 18 years old? That is scary to me...

    Thanks for the info,
    Jenn

I would honestly use a nanny they would be in your house still it wont have to be such a adjustment ... and there are nannies that are over 18 try a agency tell them the age of the nanny you want they should be able to help you good luck!!

Mine were born 9 weeks early and I worked from home, so I went the nanny route since I was home to see what was going on anyways. When they were 22 months I switched to 3 days daycare/2 days nanny, so they could get more socialization and preschool type activities in.

I say nanny until they are about 1 and a half to two, then day care part time for the socialization.

I would think you might need a nanny rather than daycare because of the hours you'll need childcare. At least near me, I don't know of any daycares that stay open until 7pm. Also, 7pm is really close to bedtime for a lot of babies and toddlers, so if you have your twins home with a nanny, the nanny can start the bedtime routine before you even get home.

We have had a nanny since I went back to work when my girls were 10 months old and it has worked out great. If my girls are extra tired, I just let them sleep in since our nanny comes to the house. I don't have to get them up and moving to meet a deadline. Having a nanny gives me a lot more flexibility than a daycare would. It's more expensive but worth it I think. Our nanny is 24 and has been a nanny since she was 18. We found her on Craigslist. She had great references and we really liked her, so even though she wasn't through an agency we were totally comfortable.

I think a nanny is better for the early years. Personal preference.

Just wanted to make sure that you realize what a controversial method/ book Babywise is. Techniques used in the book have been linked to failure to thrive, at least one death and the American Academy of Pediatrics has issued warnings against methods the book teaches.

As for your original question, I think a nanny would be your best bet because of the time you need care. I agree totally with a PP that most centers don't stay open until 7pm and that many babies go to bed around that time.

I agree with nanny for these reasons. I've had my kids in daycare since 10 months and LOVE it! I specifically did not want a nanny. But I know my daycare is only open until 630pm. I think there was one I saw that was open till 7pm, but that's not the norm. My children at 21 months still go to bed at 7pm, so I would want someone that could do the night time routine in the house.

    Good luck!

I would say to have a nanny until 1.5-2 yo and swith to Daycare after that.
We had bad experience with nanny with my DS. but again we had 6 nannies and 2 was perfect. so just start to look for the nanny ealier and ask for the references.
but nanny is much better sh will stay in your house with kids and twins would be in there enviroment.
With this twins we will be looknig for the nanny and will try to keep the nanny until 2 ( most of our daycare take 2yokids)
