Is this really happening? They woke up yesterday morning with a few bumps, but by the time I picked the up from my babysitter(MIL) their faces, back, stomachs, and arms was covered with little red bumps. Is this from the shots? My mom thinks so. I would have thought it would have already happened but I guess not. Will these chicken pox be as bad since they got them from their shots? I am clueless. My oldest dd didn't ever get the chicken pox and she had the vaccine. My pedi is out until june 30. I guess it will just run its course. They might of had a small fever over the last couple of days but that is it. Not overly cranky and have been sleeping the same.

Does your pedi have someone covering for them? I would definitely call in the morning to double check.

Reactions to the varicella vaccine can occur as late as 2-3 weeks after the injection. Getting a mild case of chicken pox after the vaccine is common...but call in to the pedi office just to let them know that they did get a rash.

We didn't get a rash, but both boys developed a reaction at the injection site 2 weeks after the shot...a big red, swollen lump. Freaked me out for a minute, but they were fine.

I haven't had any of mine get a full blown case of them like that from the shot, just a few spots around the injection site. I just double checked the info they gave me when mine were vaccinated & the rash can occur up to a month after the shot but it is relatively uncommon (1 in 20), what are the odds they would both get it? I would check with your ped to be sure that's what it is.

Did they get the MMR at the same time? We got a rash from the MMR 10 days after the shot and it is much more common than getting the pox.

Yes they got their MMR at the same time. Thanks for all the advice ladies. Their pedi is out until the 30th and I asked my family dr yesterday and she said that it is possible for that to happen and they should be ok.

There is a 20% (1 in 5) chance of getting a mild case of Chicken Pox from the vaccine. There is a 5% (1 in 20) chance of getting a mild case of measles from the MMR vaccine. It takes about 10 days for these to show up so you are right on schedule. It will run its course but it will be much milder than a full-blown case.

We were fine with the Chicken Pox vaccine (at 12 months) but Adam got a pretty nasty rash 10 days after the MMR shot (at 15 months) along with a fever. It lasted 3 or 4 days and then he was fine. Good luck!

Our friends' little girl got chicken pox after the vaccination. It was 2 weeks after the shot that she broke out. Now a week later she is starting to scab over. I would definitely call the pedi about it. :hug99:

I have not read pp but I think that ten days or so after the 12 mos shots is perfectly normal to get a reaction. Jack ended up with a fever 10 days after his shots and Lily got a huge injection site reaction that I was convinced was a lyme disease rash until I had a surgeon that is our neighbor look at it!
I hope things get back to normal soon.

I would get in with your pedi to have them checked out...but Reagan got them in about that same time frame after her pox shot too. She only had about 6 pox, but we did have it diagnosed as that. But she didn't have any fever and stuff like that. i hope they feel better soon!

yikes i hope they're better soon!

our ped told us not to expect a reaction to the vaccines this time until 8 to 10 days after (which was yesterday), and we might see red bumps or rashes and low fever--but since it's looking "full blown" i'd call in
