    HELP!

I just tried to be daring with our dinner feed and gave them beechnut stage 1 Chicken and Chicken broth. (we haven't ever done a meat before)...anyway, the first spoonfull, they both made the most horrid face and spit it out. The second one, BOTH OF them gagged and I thought my daughter was actually going to "toss it". Her eyes were watering and she looked at me like, "what are you doing to me??". Have any of you experienced this? The expiration date was in 2009 and I tasted it, although it was not the best chicken I've ever had, it wasn't "rotten" or anything. The texture was really grainy. I just threw it away and went on to squash & prunes with oatmeal...

Has anyone experienced this with meat? What kind of meat does yours like? When did you start feeding meat? Am I early or late??

    TIA!

I have never used beechnut, I've always used Gerber. I started feeding mine the Gerber jarred meats around 7 months. They looked pretty nasty, but my two liked them. We tried everything, but pork, we were told no pork. Then we moved on to the mixtures, Gerber apples and chicken, carrots and beef etc. Mine have always liked the jarred meats.

Neither of my kids like the plain meat, did the same gag business like you just fed them poison. I would try the mixes, they have sweet potato/turkey, apples/chicken...etc. Mine don't mind the mixes at all, but plain...no way.

My boys never ate the Chicken, the first time I gave it to them one gagged and the other actually threw up. I did alot of veggies, fruits and the different cereals in the jar. They would however, eat the apples with chicken and any of the meats in the jar but not the meats with just gravy. It had to be with apples or with sweet potatoes so try those...they may be stage 2. The ones with gravy smell like dog food I wouldn't eat it either...LOL!

I have 7 kids and NONE off them would ever eat the plain meats.....they love the meats mixed with fruits or veges though. Pears and chicken, carrots and beef, apples and chicken (you get the idea.. [IMG] )

I have five kids and my first one I waited and fed him babyfood according to the doctor and I think it made him have a food adversion and he didn't like textures. He would vomit with weird textures.

My second two I started babyfood at four weeks because I had a different doctor and we NEVER had a food adversion with them.

Mine still won't eat meat. I try it every 1-2 weeks, and always a no go. I puree my own chicken, have also tried giving them chicken from chicken noodle soup, and the chicken noodle soup pureed. And I tried turkey as well.

My girls LOVE carrots, but at Christmas when I tried giving them carrots that were cooked with beef, they gagged and refused those too.

I just keep trying every 1-2 weeks, eventually I think they will like it. I never tried meat from the jar though, so I don't know if one brand is any better than the other.

The only way mine would eat the pureed meat, was if it was mixed with fruit. So we opted for those instead (or I made my own with leftover chicken and applesauce).

BUT, I just wanted to say that it was not uncommon for my kids to gag on new foods that they did not like. For example, no matter how many times I offered peas to Hannah, she gagged. EVERY time! Just her way of letting me know that she did not like it!

That is too funny. Both of mine instantly gagged and threw up the beech nut chicken and turkey. It smells and looks like cat food to me - gross! I think it just might be that brand. Experiment with some others. Or try a blend - meat & sweet potatoes is a favorite with ours.
