It's my birthday - I'm 36. I really thought I'd still be nursing. I'm not because of a clog that persisted enough to threaten surgery (very rare/stupid). I still blame myself everyday. I haven't nursed in 3 weeks. My DH has caught me crying a few times over it. I don't want to be a drama queen, but I'll always question whether I let some surgeon scare me into weaning. Either way...sometimes I don't think DH understands why it was/is so emotional for me and why there is such guilt attached...especially since my original goal was 6 weeks! Then tonight I come to bed to find a card on my pillow that says "To Mommy" on the front and inside:

"Mom, you have made our first 10 1/2 months so great! We love you for many reasons, but mostly for your boobs and your relentless effort to make sure we had them and only them for 7 1/2 months. We know that you didn't want to stop so you took another 2 months to do that against the advice of your Dr. Even though they are smaller we can still see them and we will always look at them with fondness for what they gave us. Oh and your arms, smiles, voice, hugs and kisses are great too, but we'll always love your boobs the most."

Let's hear it for supportive people in our lives as we BF our babies!

How sweet!!! I had to read it out loud to my DH. Not something he would ever think to do, but he is still super supportive of bf-ing. Tell your DH how wonderful that was and how creative. I am amazed.

How cute and great is your DH! That is awesome! I don't think my DH would ever think to thank me for the time I've put into pumping for my girls. I sure wish he realized how great it is like your DH! You've got a keeper there! :D

Happy birthday, Liesel! And WOW, your DH is amazing. :bow2: And everything he wrote is absolutely true. You fought tooth and nail to keep nursing - and in the end you were wise enough to realize that your family needs a healthy mom more than anything else.

Happy Birthday! What a thoughtful gift of showing his appreciation (and the babies') for all you've done for your family!!!! Your DH is so sweet. :)
I had my husband read your post and he thought it was so nice, too (once he got over the fact that DH does not stand for designated hitter).
Hope you had a great birthday weekend. ~Erin

OMG ... I just teared up reading this post. My husband is supportive enough but totally doesn't get why I am so sad the girls are weaning ... he is like, they are a year, isn't it about time?? ARGH!

I think both of us just need to realize that it is OK and there will always be moments that will make up for the "lost" ones you will not have now that the girls are weaned ... does that make sense?

I think you did the best thing for your babies and yourself. Go forward without regrets because you went through a lot of pain and questioning of yourself (which is also pain when it comes to mothering) and that alone says how much you love your girls!

Plus, your husband is cute (I've been to your blog) AND has a great sense of humor ... what a catch! =-)
