I am scared to death of offering something too early and someone choking or something equally horrible. TIA, Amy
I started mine on puffs beginning of seven months. I started Cheerios a couple of weeks later, once they had the puffs down.
7 months here too! Puffs are better to start with because they dissolve so quickly! They are shaped like a star, and to start out, I would break one side of the star off and put it in their mouth until they got used to the texture and chewing. Good luck!
We've been doing cheerios for I think about a month. They love them! (Never tried the puffs bc a mom I know thinks they are "baby crack" - her 10 mo old wouldn't eat anything else!) In the beginning, they gagged slightly a couple times, but never even came close to choking. There's a school of thought that says that if they are developed enough to pick up something small like that and get it into their mouth, they are also developed enough to eat it safely. If they can't feed themselves cheerios, they're probably not ready. You could always put a few out for them and see what happens. It's so funny to watch the intense concentration they put into practicing their pincer grasp!
The boys are 9 months old and I have tried several times to intoduce puffs and cereals. They don't like the feel in their mouth so they spit them out. My girls had long been eating dry cereal at this age, but the boys want none of it.
We started puffs at 8 months here and cheerios not too long after that. At first I broke the puffs in half. They really do dissolve very easily, we tried them ourselves to see.
