    Hello Ladies!
Congratulations to all the new twin mamas, really love reading all those stories :)
I have just a bit left till the end of my first trimester so the NT scan is around the corner. My doctor basically said due to my age (30) and if the results are normal, he would not recommend either amneo or cvs. However, he did say that NT scan with twins is only 75% accurate, leaving 25% to guessing. He obviously cannot offer any concrete advice in this matter leaving me absolutely clueless and with just stats. apparently, with amneo chances of losing pregnancy is 1 in 200 and with cvs, 1 in 300.
First of all, he kind of hopped and skipped over this - so I just want to make sure I understand it all correctly. When they do amneo/cvs - they have to sample both placentas?
I know it is a very personal choice, but I wanted to see if anyone has anything more to add to my knowledge of all of this and/or their experience and thoughts as I feel totally lost.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

something my doc asked DH & i that really stuck with us in regards to optional testing was "will the results change your mind about continuing the pregnancy?". for us, the answer was a resounding no, so we didn't have the optional screening tests performed.

Same here. We tried for quite a while to get pregnant and knew that whatever happened we wanted to keep the pregnancy. The Dr. told us that the reason that most people have the testing done was to be prepared or to terminate the pregnancy if something undesirable showed up. Even then, it is not completely accurate so we decided that since we were going to keep it we really didn't want the months of stressing for something that may or may not be present (downs, spinal bifida, etc..). My SIL had it done with her kids since there is spinal bifida in my DH and her DH's families. It showed up positive in all her children (4) and not one of them have it. In fact, one of them tested so high that they said the baby would never walk and would need a wheelchair, they worried until she was born about it and her pregnancy was not a happy one as a result, my SIL became depressed and cried a lot. My Niece is now a happy almost 4 year old who loves playing and running around! Just some things for you to take into consideration. Hope this helped a little!

We also turned down the optional testing even at my age (38) because it was not going to change anything about how we felt about the pregnancy, and our OB even said he agreed with our decision because of the risks. He did confirm to us that the amnio would have been done on each sac, thus increasing the risk of miscarriage even further. That was all it took for me to decline it all together.

This was the situation here as well. :good: We knew it didn't matter the results, so we opted out of doing either.

This was my situation as well. Pregnancy (twin esp!) is stressful enough- I did not want to add extra what-ifs to the equation.

We declined all testing with both my pregnancies as it would not have made a difference to us. :good:

We just did the testing a week ago (the IPS u/s and bw) and have to do the 2nd bw in 1-2 weeks. My dr did tell us that there is a higher chance of false positives when carrying twins bc the test is only designed for singletons.
You don't necessarily have to do an amino once you get a positive result. (Well depends on your location I guess) but around here, if you have a positive screen, then you can do a further in depth ultrasound FIRST to see if anything is wrong.
    Hope that helps!

From the research I did with my singleton, even the amnio only catches the more common genetic issues...many of which can be identified in a non-invasive ultrasound. So I decided not to risk it (at maternal age 39).
