    Just another question,

I've been told by my friends (2 of them) with children that they hardly ever used their changing tables..

Is this true for you too?

I was thinking that with twins it would be necessity..am I wrong?

I have never had a changing table with any of my kids. I used a bed when they were little and a blanket on the floor now.

We used the changing table in the bedroom all the time in the beginning but now only use it on occasion for the real messy diapers. Most of my changing is now done on the floor since that's where we spend most of our day. I have a basket on the dining room floor (a/k/a playroom) full of diapers, wipes, butt cream and lotion. It makes it sooo much easier just to plop them down and change them rather than have to take them somewhere to do it.

We never got an actual changing table. They share a room and have a dresser. We put the changing pad on top of the dresser. We only used it for about 3 months and now almost all changings take place on the family room floor. We have all the supplies in there too.

we use the floor. I never used my bed or couch because I didn't want them to pee (or worse) on it. With my oldest - I did have the changing table attachment that went on my pack and play. I did use that for a little while when we first got him home, but then went to the floor.

I never got a table because all of my friends said theirs just became a "catch all" for crap and I didn't want one more thing to clear off. :)

We tried to get away with not buying a changing table - we used the floor or the couch - but my back ended up killing me!!! Now I use the changing table almost every time I change them just for that reason. My back is 100 times better!

I never used it with my first. And with these guys in a three story house there is no way I'm going to run up and down the stairs for a table. We use the floor, couch and bed.

    Hi Denise,
I used it alot when they were first born, but now since they are a little older, I hardly ever use it. They get changed on the floor, bed, where ever we end up.

We have a changing table that MIL bought and I absolutely love it! I have changed them in the crib or on the floor and it does strain my back. It's a beautiful table with 3 big drawers underneath where all their clothes go, so we have a routine in the morning where I get them up, one stays in the crib while the other one and I go to the changing table, we change them, get them dressed, goof around, do the other baby ... it's a nice way to start the day! Plus I think it helps during the day when they need to be changed, I move both into the nursery, it's a change of environment for them and for some reason they LOVE the changing table, you plunk them on it and they are instant happy babies! So while it isn't an absolute necessity the way some other items are, I can't imagine not having mine.

The only place K&K were changed while we were home was on the changing table until they potty trained at 3.

We never had one and I still just change them in their crib. I never missed it.

I've never owned one, I've always used my bed (with a waterproof pad) or a blanket on the floor.

I can't say 100% that it would or wouldn't be a necessity, but since there are alternatives you could probably get away with not having one. I have to say, however, that it would be nice not to be bent over all the time changing a diaper.

Same here, my back hurts especially after 2 of them. I like to use the crib right now, because they lay side by side and I can talk to them both while I change them.

It is hard to get up and down and up and down out of the floor all the time! And bending over the bed was hard on my back, especially after the c-section.... so I did use a changing table, and it is so easy and convienent (sp?) that I STILL use it! My guys are 2.5 and the changing table is still coming in handy!

We have a changing table but almost never use it. For me it's easier changing them on the floor.

Well, we actually got a 2nd changing table so we could have one upstairs and downstairs. It was killing our knees and backs to change them on the floor or couch. Now that they are older and don't need as many diaper changes we moved both the tables upstairs and I just use the couch when downstairs.

I won't kill my back ... so yes, we have one. I have one in the nursery and I have a regular dresser in our room and bought a pad for that so that I have a station on each floor. Even with my oldest, I used it a long time. I also use it to dress the kids and it doesn't kill my back. I occassionally do it on the floor or on the bed but it's far less comfortable. If you don't want to waste money, buy a nice dresser (not necessarily a changing table) and use that with a pad. Once they get older you still have a nice dresser for their room or somewhere else in the house.

Personally, I would definitely get one.

I couldnt imagine not having a changing table! I have 2 actually, one in their bedroom upstairs and one downstairs. I have back problems and I refuse to kill myself plus it holds everything they need so I dont have to worry about where to put it...

I use my changing table for every single diaper change when at home. The girls love it and smile as soon as i lay them on it. It's also got great storage underneith. I can't imagine not having it.

We put the changing pad on top of their dresser. I put a piece of the stuff that you put under rugs so that it would not slide around. We used that 99% of the time for the first 2 months. Now I have a changing pad downstairs that I use. I just put it on the hearth of our fireplace. So I guess I would say that you don't need a "changing table" but I would say yes to having at least 1 changing pad.

    Hope that helps.

  22. We got furniture that has a dresser with a "changing table" look to the top. We got a mat for it and everything and maybe used it once. We just change them wherever we might be...the sofa, crib, floor. HA!

I cannot imagine not having a changing table. We bought stationary cribs, so changing them in their cribs means leaning over the rails. We did do the waterproof pad on our bed or the couch when they were little and I was here alone. (Just so I wouldn't have to worry about the other baby left in the room alone.) My guys LOVED their time on the changing table. DH and I said if we could figure out how to make it safe, they would both sleep there! LOL!

We bought this one from Target. It is super sturdy and we're planning to use it as just plain shelves after the changing table use ends. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=b...asin=B0006HJDPU

It's definitely not a necessity, but if you have any back problems at all (and I had very bad back pain after my c-section), you're going to want a changing table.

Their dresser has a changing table attachment that we used to only use when upstairs, but we use that exclusively now. When we were downstairs during the day we always used the pack n play changing table attachement. But they are too wiggly now (and heavy) for the PNP changing table.

I only change them on the floor, etc. if it's an emergency. My back is already a mess and I'm not such a young mommy!!

Like pp, we used the changing table ALOT in the first few months. Now, we do still use it but only if we are upstairs. We have a packnplay that we have set up downstairs so we will often use the changing pad on that but I still find myself at this point using the floor. I love the changing table. If you have the room and mulah then it can be very useful. Especially the dresser kind which makes it multi-purposeful. Ours isn't a dresser but it has nice storage space so even when the changing portion is no longer needed, I still want to keep it to keep toys or baskets or whatever in.

We still use it. Mainly we now use it for poopy diapers and after their baths to dry off/dress in jammies. I found it easier to do dirty diapers bc they tend to move all over the place and didnt' want "stuff" everywhere. But if worse came to worse, I think you could do without one too! ;)

We have a pad on the dresser in their room in a frame my Dad built to raise it up high enough for DH to be comfortable too, but elsewhere in the house we just use our bed or the floor depending what floor we are on (3 levels). In our old place we had a changing station on the diningroom table with a blow up pad from IKEA and a basket of "stuff". I didn't want to spend the $ for something that had a short lifespan.

In the beginning I used the changing table. Now, I change diapers in the crib we keep in the family room. The changing table just holds the baskets with their diapers, toiletries, washclothes, etc. I figure when the are older we can keep toys in baskets on it for them. I found the crib in the family room to be easy on the back and I just keep a basket full of diapers and necessities in the corner of it. I also dry and dress them there after their baths since they are still in the kitchen sink bath stage.

I also found the Diape Genie to be the real waste. As you know, with multiples you go through so many diapers. I just found it a hassle to deal with...so I would just put them in a plastic bag and they would go straight out to the trash.

we never used one == I set up two tables (one upstairs and one down) with changing pads and clothing on one and just changing pad on the other -- it made life tons easier and we still use the one upstairs with clothes and everything. When I can get around to putting away clothes, I'll move it into the nursery.

I have used my changing table a lot. If I had it all to do over again, I would put a changing table downstairs too. The nursery is upstairs. I used a Pack N Play with a changing table attached to it. It was fine. I have a basket of bibs, burp clothes, blankets, etc. downstairs. It would have been nice to have these things in drawers or baskets. I would think about this seriously!
