I had identical twin boys in April of 09. At 24 weeks I was put on bedrest for shortening of the cervix and perterm labor. I am now almost 10 week spregnant with a second set of twins. (YES both twins were concieved naturally YIKES). Anyways, I am wondering what my chances are of ending up on bedrest again for the same thing....once cervix issues and pertem labor, always?

According to my OB the answer would be no. I had some concerns with a singleton and I asked him if I would have any issues next time and he said no! The next time was my twins and I went 35 and 3 with great weights and healthy pregnancy with shortening at an appropriate time. If, however, you have an incompetent cervix, then the answer could be yes. But now you know what to look for, what to expect! You are a pro! Congrats!

Definitely praying for you! I was on bedrest with both sets of twins and had a cerclage with the 2nd set. We have no idea what caused the PTL with any of the pg, but was able to stay pregnant until 35 weeks with the boys, which was amazing. I started bedrest with them at 20 weeks - strictly as a precaution (it was moderate, so I could get up as needed, but really took it easy as much as possible.) It's a long road, but so worth it! This time around it's just a singleton (started as 2) and I'm hoping to avoid the bedrest. Do you know if these guys are ID or frat? 2 of our sets were frat and one was ID - all di/di spontaneous. Crazy!

Our first set was mo/di...identical. This set is di/di but doctor said there could still be a small chance that they could be identical so we will have to wait and see when they are born. We are not finding out the sexes this time. Both sets were spontanous, which I was told is extremely rare, but listening to what you have been through...maybe not? Every day last so much longer because I am making myself so nervous. Once I get to 28 weeks 4 days which is when I had my first set maybe I will be able so breathe.

I am sorry to hear of your loss with with this set. Do you know what happened?

I do think it's pretty rare - our OB (who has been in practice for 25+ years) had never had another multiple multiple family. Yeah, getting to that first milestone is so good. I remember getting to 29.5 weeks with the boys and thought ok - at least we made it better than we did with the girls. And knew they'd be ok if they did come after that. Of course were hoping for much longer, but its that "at least we made it this far" feeling. Nope, no idea what happened this time. We saw evidence of 2 babies but only one ever developed. So at least it happened early on (if there has to be an "at least".) And I have to say this pregnancy has been SO much easier than a twin pregnancy. So at least there is a small bright side. :)

Hopefully being that they are di/di things will be better for you and the babies! Wow, two sets that's so amazing!
