I was not sure where to post this question so I thought this would be a good place. I recently found out I was pregnant..unplanned and a little scary, but I have finally started to accept it. I have twins who are 21 months right now....will be 2.5 when the other baby comes. I feel like I am gaining weight REALLY quickly and I am starting to get nervous it might be twins again. I used fertility treatments with the first pregnancy to get pregnant, but we got pregnant unassisted this time (to our shock). Anyone know what my chnaces are? I am hoping since the first set of twins was not "natural" that I will only have a singleton this time. Of course, I will be happy with a healthy baby (or babies), but still freaking out a bit now. I have a DR appointment on the 31st. How can I wait that long???? [IMG]

You have an approximate 50% chance of twins again.. "natural" or not!! Good luck!

I was told that with faternals (natural) you have an 25% chance of a second set. I am not sure what your odds would be.

I have no idea what the chances of having another set are..but it can happen! [IMG]
We used 50 mg clomid both times. Abby and Lilly are fraternal and we dont know for sure..but think Lauren and Madison are identical. From what I've seen Clomid doesnt increase your chance of identicals...so I guess anything can happen!!
Congratulations & dont drive yourself crazy waiting!! (I know, easier said then done!!)

I have always heard a 1 in 20 chance of having them again if the first set is fraternal.

I have heard 1/12 or 1/14 chance of having frats again...still a 1/285 chance of having identicals... definitely NOT 50% chance of having another set of twins.. the best odds that I have read are 1/5 of having another set of frat twins...I found that last year...but can't find those odds again... baby center.com has it listed as 1/12 chance...but if you used clomid to get frat twins then you probably have a much smaller chance of frat twins on your own... the increased odds are related to the fact that a woman who has had frat twins definitely ovulates more than once at least 1 month out of 12.... Remember that for a second pg (or third) you do get bigger, faster... even if your first were twins... but you only have another week to wait... not too bad...

    Hi,

I have heard that your chances of a second multiples pregnancy are increased. You could probably get the exact number from your OB.

Good Luck and cheers to whaever you end up having.

TS actually has a page that lists the chances of having twins based on various factors.

    Good luck!

We also used fertility treatments for our oldest children and were quite shocked by this pregnancy. I was hoping for twins again but it is just one little guy.

I would think if you used fertility drugs to stimulate more than one egg then this time your odds would not increase if "unassisted."

I hope the wait goes by quickly for you. And if it is twins, you're already a successful twin momma!

I used clomid with my last pg and it was twins. I m/c one very early and gave birth to the other. I asked my doctor about getting pg again with clomid and he did say my chances of twins would increase. So we decided not to use clomid and well, we are pg naturally with twins again. There are absolutely no twins that run in either of our families so it was quite a shock!

I was told I have like an 86% chance of having another set of multiples [IMG] because of all my factors. Makes me scared to have another baby!

I was told the same as TwixesMom, my twins are fraternal, conceived 7 days apart, au natural, and my chances of having another set are 85% based on my factors which are:

    1. My age when I had the twins
    2. It was my first pregnancy and a multiple
    3. In my case some cycles I ovulate twice but there is no way to determine which cycles LOL.

I would love to throw the dice and have another but DH isnt so thrilled with the idea LOL

Ok, Kim and TabbiSue, what are your ages. TabbiSue are there any other factors for you? E&E were my 2nd pregnancy but the 1st was a m/c. I would like to try again but dh is too scared.

My RE told me that my chances of having twins again weren't higher because I had twins through IVF. They were the same as anyone who gets pregnant regardless if they have had twins before. Now, since I do have some twins in my family history, that leads to a possibility as well, but not a super high one.

I'm only 21 but the girls were my first pregnancy and I got pregnant the same week we started trying. We have 17 sets in 4 generations on my mother's side plus several sets on my father's side. I'm overweight(working on that) and tall(around 5'8"). I don't know whether this affects it or not but I'm a clomid concieved baby. I would love to have another set (hopefully including at least one boy!

I was 31 when the twins were born. Mine are the first set in 55 years on my moms side. Some great aunt way back when had twins but one died shorlty after birth. LOL, so much for skipping a generation, they skipped a lifetime!!!

I was 32 when our girls were born ( id ) and my mom's mom- (my granny)had 1 singleton first ( my mom) and then 2 sets of twins and a set of triplets. She ( my granny) was also a twin ( frat) and her twin brother's granddaughter ( who is the same age as me) had a set of frat boys 2 years before I had the girls.
weird that both of the granddaughters of the twins had twins even though they were b/g twins. There was no twins born between our's and our grandparents.
I personally feel there is a genetic component to both types of twinning, not just Frat.
There was a show on TLC a couple weeks back called " Twins, Twins and more twins" where a woman had 6 kids with one man, all singletons and married another man and had 3 sets & 1 singleton. ( 2 of the sets were ID and 1 was Frat) go figure...maybe it is a sperm thing???

My dh would be so happy, he's always taken the credit for the girls. hahaha, very interesting stuff!! love it, P [IMG]

I have actually seen research that shows there may be an enzyme in some mens sperm that is more likely to cause the zygote to split. Hmmmm, something to think about.

As for me mine were au natural and I am terrified to get pg again because the chances are so high for twins again.

My peri told me 1:5. Mine were spontaneous/unassisted and I got pregnant our first month of trying. We were very blessed.

If I were playing the lottery, then I would go for it. Since it is TWINS we are talking about here, DH had a vasectomy! LOVE my two, but do not want to have two more.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. You must be counting down the hours until that appt of yours!!!!

Ok, I naturally conceived ID twin girls my very first pg (and loss). I was told there was a slight chance of conceiving them again. I got pg with dd a singleton. Then the IF train came and we needed IVF to get pg again. Twins are a huge factor in that of course.

I have a hard time believing 86% chance of twins again? I know older women shoot out more eggies to produce frat twins. But ID twins are still for the most part a medical mystery.

I have heard that but its still very unproven!
