chances both babies will stay head-down?

I am new here and wish I'd found this great site earlier! I am 35 weeks tomorrow with b/g twins, and as of two days ago both were still head down. I am hoping for a vaginal delivery and I am wondering what the chances are that they could still turn at this point. Doctors and nurses seem reluctant to speculate and I can understand that, so I thought I would check here with those who might have their own experiences. Thanks!

There is always a chance that they'll turn, but I would say that there is a good chance that they will stay head down

I agree. At this point it's always more likely that they'll stay head down. Babies can change position any time but by now they'd have to be pretty darn motivated. ;)

Thank you! Baby A is smaller. Hopefully that will not be a problem either.

It'll depend on your care provider. Some aren't comfortable with a large size discrepancy, others are. My baby A was 1 lb 5 oz smaller than my baby B and I did have a vaginal birth with both but did have to fight my OB for it.

I agree with PP, pretty good chance they will stay where they are.
My OB would delvier vag as long as A was not > 20% smaller than B. My A was 10 ounces less (5.3 vs 5.13) and we had no problems.

    Good luck and welcome!

They could always turn, even when the first one comes out. Is your doctor comfortable with a breech extraction. My boy (B) changed from head down to bum down just before 30 weeks and never flipped back. He didn't flip back when A came out so the doctor performed a breech extraction as planned. They told me, as long as B is not estimated more than 2lbs heavier than A, they'll go ahead (I also had a 9lbs+ baby vaginally so that probably helped too). In the end A was 1oz heavier than B.

We got a look today and both are still head down with only a four ounce discrepancy. I am seeing a large practice of docs, so I am not sure what their individual comfort levels are with breech extraction. I will start asking.

Mine were head down for the second half (there abouts) of my pregnancy and they stayed that way! Definitely ask around your OB's office to find out which docs have which opinions about vaginal twin births. Also, you can talk to whoever your "fave" OB is about what happens if an OB that you don't love is on call when you go into labour. My OB was honest with me that most of the other OBs in his practice were a) not experienced in twin births, nevermind a vertex/breech twin birth (in the case that baby B flips after A is out), or b) not even willing to entertain the idea of a breech birth and would immediately c-section me if a breech situation presented itself. My OB was SUCH a nice man that he therefore gave me his personal cell number and told me to call or have the nurses call if he wasn't on call when I went into labour and that he would come in to deliver me himself :)

In the end I had a c/sec, so it didn't matter, but I was glad that we had the discussion.
