I am piggybacking on the PTL question. For those of you who went on bedrest because of shortened cervix, did you have PTL or did you go in one day and the doctor found it? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I wa found to have shortened cervix on routine exam. Was put on bedrest. However subsequently I had signs of PTL and was started om meds. I was on bedrest from week 24 to week 37, when I delivered two healthy boys. Goodluck to you. Shortened cervix is scary but it doesn't strictly correlate with when you deliver. Follow your doctors instructions and best of luck.

I went to the dr. at 23w6d for a routine appt. and was feeling absolutely great and I was still even teaching part-time at that point and had just been at work that morning. At that appt. I was told I was dilated 2cm, having contractions (although I could not feel them) and my cervix was very short. So I had absolutely no symptoms or signs of it at all. :(

I did not have PTL. I just went in for a routine exam and found that my cervix was very short.

I never had any symptoms of PTL. I was put on bedrest at 17 weeks from a very short cervix and even up to the day that I delivered at 31w6d (from preeclampsia), I never showed any signs of labor.

At 28 weeks, my cervix was a nice 3.2 cm (according to an ultrasound). A few days later I started having a bunch of Braxton Hicks contractions and ended up going into the hospital to be checked out. By then, my cervix was down to 1.6 cm (in less than a week), so I had to go on meds (terbutiline) to stop preterm labor and have been on bedrest at home (and taking nifedipine) ever since. Tomorrow I'll be 33 weeks. As of my last ultrasound, 5 days ago, my cervix has stabilized at 1.3-1.6 cm.

I did go into PTL before my cervix dilated, but didn't realize it. True incompetent cervix can dilate with no contractions whatsoever though according to my peri.

I was kinda obsessed about mine, when I was 20 I had cervical cancer (Pregnant 17 years later) So I think I "goggled" a little too much-lol and it freaked me out, all this talk about cervical shortening ect. I would bring it up a lot at my appts and they said they measure it with u/s....the DR said mine was a mile long and stayed that way the whole time until my c/s at 37.5 weeks, geez I worried so much for nothing :D

Sorry, I think I read your question wrong-oops
