    Hello ladies,

You all are so helpful and knowledgeable I was wondering if any of you might know about the "normal" cervix lenght at 30 weeks. I have been on bedrest since 23 weeks for PTL concerns and have been monitored weekly by a high risk clinic. The concern has been my cervix, but luckily by week 25 the lenght has been 4 cm and closed. Yestersday I went on for my check up and it is still closed but now is 2.5 cm.
My last appoimtnet was one month ago and it was 4.cm long. The babies are appx 3.5lbs each and all else looks good. One baby is head down right on my cervix. The docs said I was in the clear and would no longer be monitored by the clinic, now its regular obgyn appointments and no more cervix checks. But, the 2.5 cm lenght has me concerned. Should it be that short at this point in the pregnany? Can I go on for a few more weeks or will it shorten quicker at this point?

    Thank you so much, Yolanda

I think 2.5cm at 30 weeks is okay, but call your OB and ask if you are concerned. Mine was under 1cm from 22 weeks on (with a cerclage).

I agree with Susan. I have a short cervix, so I'm not sure what 'normal' is around 30 wks. And remember you can always ask your OB to check it for you if you are worried.

Hi Yolanda, I agree with the previous posters, ask your doctor.

I will be 31 weeks on Monday and last week at my high risk ob appointment my cervix was upwards of 3cm. From what my dr. said, because I was concerned like you, is that anything 2.5cm or higher is normal. My cervix was 4cm for the longest time and now that my babies are getting bigger (4lbs 4oz and 3lbs. 13oz at 30 week growth scan). ALSO, when the babies were both head down a few weeks ago, my cervix was shorter in length....but I was assured that because of their position and size it can change. Another week, they were both breech (little buggers!) and my cervical length went back up......less pressure on the cervix.

Now, my whole pregnancy here with the twins, I am being monitored every two weeks for cervical length because of surgery to my cervix a few years ago due to cervical cancer (caught early, but a large part of my cervix was removed via a LEEP procedure). I had two previous full term pregnancies and my doctor says that is the biggest indicator that my cervix will hold.

Hope that helps you! Hang in there :) -jillian

Let's see if I can remember my cervix over the past few weeks.

It started out at over 4 cm, at 24 weeks.
At 28 weeks it was 3.5 cm.
At 29 is was 3 cm.
At 31w4d it was 2.5 cm.
    And now at 33 it's 1.8 cm.

My regular OB got concerned at 31 weeks more because of the rate of change combined with my contractions (16 an hour that day), and decided on steroid shots just in case. But said that 2.5 cm was still a GOOD length and could certainly hold steady for weeks still.

My peri today thought she was nuts to be concerned about it being 2.5 cm and said that he wouldn't have been concerned unless it was under 1.5 at less than 30 weeks. He was wildly unconcerned about it's current length, and said to not monitor it anymore. If it goes, it goes.

Upon reporting the results to my regular OB (because I freaked out about it losing so much in a week and a half when I had so FEW contractions during most of that week), she was concerned and wants to keep monitoring it.

So is 2.5 cm at 30 weeks concerning? I don't know - depends on who you ask. My OB thinks that the peri was less concerned because as far as HE'S concerned 33 weekers with steroid shots would be fine (wind up in the NICU for a time, but come out of it ok), whereas she's concerned because we're trying to make it to at LEAST 35 weeks but ideally 37.

I know I didn't help, but I thought some other numbers to compare it to might be useful. Talk to your OB about it - sometimes the high risk doctors just take a much different view of what's ok because of how many times they deal with situations that might NOT turn out well.

    Thanks ladies,

I know I am a worry wart, I just want the babies to bake at least another 4 weeks. Unfortunatly, my obgyn is away and the back up doc left earlier than expected so I will probably have to wait until my next appointment to ask. The high risk doc saw no reason for concern, so I guess it is OK. But she also was happy I made it to 30 weeks and thinks aything beyond this point is a bonus. So, I'll continue to take it easy and stay of my feet (I was cheating alot this week).

    Take care y'all.

At 27 weeks my cervix was 2.8cm, and the peri was a little concerned but not enough to put me on any restrictions or anything. He just wanted to keep an eye on it. At 31 weeks my cervix was 2.5cm, and he wasn't concerned at all. He said by 31 weeks with twins a cervix that length is nothing to worry about. HTH!!

My dr. told me that if I was 3cm through 32 weeks I was fine. Between 2.5 and 3 before 32 weeks, concern and lighten work load and time on feet. Under 2.5 before 32 weeks was bedrest. I think each dr. is different. Even by my dr you are borderline on what he would have done... call if you are concerned. You can always rest on your own even if he does not prescribe it.

I think (of course i'm no doctor) that sounds great to be 30+ weeks. I'm only 28 weeks and found out on monday i'm already 2 cm dialated and 20% thinned. So i would imagine as long as your not dilated, and take it easy....you should be fine!! try not to worry. Everything will be o.k :)
