Hello! I will be 22 weeks on Saturday with fraternal twin girls. At this point, my cervix is 5.6 inches, which I am told is excellent. My questions is this: has anyone else had an awesome looking cervix and then had the cervix shorten very quickly? I am just curious as to what the odds are that my cervix will continue to hold out or what the chances are that at some point it will start going in the other direction. I realize everyone is different, just looking for some comparisons here. I also have a 2 year old and never went into labor with her, they said I had a cervix of steal. I am hoping they are right!

    Thanks!
    Cass

well.. I do know that your cervix can shorten very quickly if it decides to.

I have had great cervix lengths. At 15 weeks it was 5.85, at 19 weeks it was 4.75 and at 24 weeks it was 4.45.. so its shortening.. but still a very good length.

    Hi Cass,

Yes, I am sorry to say that mine did. At 21w it was over 4 and then at a routine appt. at 23w6d it was just over 1. :( Turns out I was dilated to 2cm and having contractions although I could not feel them. I had an emergency cerclage the next day and that lasted for 10 days until my DD decided she wanted to pop out at home.

I also have an older DD who was born a week late. You just never know what can happen with twins.

My cervix has been over 4 for my entire pregnancy. I have noticed that it has been getting shorter. However, it is still over 4 at 32 weeks. I will find out if it has shortened anymore next week.

Great cervix length! I do think that it can happen (as people have said) but it is not typical.

I had a cerclage put in in March! I lost my fraternal twin girls last year at 21weeks so they wanted to be more safe than sorry. My cervix length a week after they put the cerclage in was 5.6 and now at 24 weeks and 5 days it is at 4.4. It is shortening but my doctor says everything is looking great!

As of my last cervical length ultrasound which was around 34 weeks, my cervix was still 3.5. It had been over 5 when I first had it checked at 26 weeks and was slowly getting shorter, but never drastic. I have no idea how long it is now, but the doctor says its still long. Plus I've been having steady contractions since week 24. So even with that, it still hasn't changed very much or in any way to be concerned about.
