    Hi ladies,
I have a gestational carrier that is 18 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins. I was wondering how often is normal to get the length of your cervix checked? I believe my gc will be getting checked once a month. Is that about standard? Also, do you get manual checks or checked with a transvaginal ultrasound? Thanks ladies!!!!

I think the doc decided to check mine every week starting around the 33rd wk. I'm pretty sure she used a transvaginal ultrasound. It was quick, easy and painless.

I started my checks at 21 weeks. Eveytime I go in every 2-3 weeks, I get a check.

My doc started tv u/s checks at week 16 and will continue until week 24. I've never had a manual check.

I was every week via transvaginal ultrasound from 18 weeks until 24 weeks. Now it will just be every month when they do the growth scan for a while. I've found that it really differed from doctor to doctor.

The reason I was asking if it was manual or by ultrasound is because I have heard some say manual checks could possibly cause preterm labor. I would think you would have to be digging in there pretty extensively to cause preterm labor though. So I guess it all depends on your pregnancy and your doctor. It seems to be all over the board here as to when the cervix checks start. I guess my gc is right within the norm than. It just worries me a little that she is only getting it checked once a month, but I guess if there are no complications, which there are none so far, than we should be fine.

I got my first at 19 weeks with vaginal ultrasound. I'm not sure how often they will check, but my next appt. is a month away.

My doctor is quick and its alittle uncomfortable, no issue after though. Once a month is pretty normal. They will slowly increase. Good Luck!

The length should be measured via T/V U/S, every 2-3 weeks, starting in the second trimester. Not all doctors do this though. But it can detect an problem before it becomes a disaster, and it is a very easy measurement to do.

I go to a Peri and they were worried about preterm labor with me since I had it with my son so they started cervical length checks at 18 weeks via vaginal ultrasound. I do one every time I go in and so far that has been every 2 weeks. He said once my cervix reaches 3cm I'll start going once a week and at 2.5 they'll watch me a lot closer.

I had mine at every u/s...about every week. I was really high risk though. Mine were all via u/s, except one. I went into L&D at 32 weeks b/c I though I lost my mucous plug and it turned out I was having contractions. Dr. did a manual check and I went into labor 3 days later. She said she felt a head. If I have another baby, there won't be any manual checks until I'm further along...if I have any say.
