I went to my perinatal doctor yesterday. He told me that up until 27 weeks he will check my cervix lenght by transvaginal ultrasound every 2 weeks. He didn't mention what he would do after that. I thought this might be a little excessive considering I have never had any problem with my cervix. I'm willing to do it just wondering if others had it done that much.

BTW I'm 13 weeks pregnant with di/di twins.

Yes, I have had them and am still having them and i'm 31 weeks today. It was once a week and now it's every 2 weeks. It beats the heck out of getting checked by a hand!!!

The only vaginal ultrasounds I had were before 9 weeks at the RE. After we graduated from the RE I had ultrasounds at every visit but they were not vaginal. My OB checked my cervix only one time that was at 35 weeks because I asked him to because I just had so much pressure that I thought my girls were going to fall out at any minute and was having contractions that were worse than before. He did not want to check me even then - he did at my request.

I went to the Peri every 3 weeks until 22 weeks and since then I've been going every 2 weeks, at every apt they check my cervix length... Actually right now my appts rotate and one appt is just for cervix length and fluid levels, the next appt is a full measurement scan and cervix check..

I've never had any cervical issues either.. It's just a precaution they take with twin pregnancies, to make sure you are holding up.. Good luck mama!

I know my peri started checking mine at 17 weeks(standard with them for multiple pregnancies) and it caught me off guard that they started so early. I had never had any problems either and no history of any problems with my previous pregnancy. But thank goodness they did check often, because at a routine appt. at 24w, I found out my cervix was really short, and it was nice and long at the last check 3 weeks before.

I had cervix checked starting at 20 weeks - every 2-3 weeks. My Peri stopped at 28 weeks because he said that at this point, if I go into Labor - there isn't much to do to stop it and it is safe for me to have the babies. Glad I don't have to have it checked anymore - can keep my pants on now :rotflmbo:

They have only ever check my cervix at my monthly u/s but the only transvag one i had was at our first 7 wk u/s. I just have to drink a ton of water and they can check the cervix length, etc via regular u/s. I too have no history of ptl or other cervical issues. (I'm just seeing a regular ob if it makes any difference.)

I have gotten cervical length checks by u/s (regular at first and then transvaginal) at every peri appt, so every 4-6 weeks since 18 weeks I think. I believe that my last one will be at my next peri appt though which will be at 33 weeks.

My OB has only done a regular cervical check for dilation twice, once at about 20 weeks when I started having lots of pressure and a sensation of things about to "fall out", and then again this past Monday when I spent the day in L&D for some fairly regular and painful contractions. At my normal appt with him on Thursday though he said that he won't be doing any more unless the contractions change again as poking around the cervix can do more harm than good when you're trying to avoid PTL!

Been having them every 3-4 weeks via u/s since 17 weeks. My last one will be next week at 28 weeks. They explained they stop doing them by u/s at that point, because there's not much they can do to stop labor / delivery, the babies are more likely to survive then. I know several friends who were sailing along with nice long cervix's and then WHAMMO, they were short the next visit - so better safe than sorry I guess!

My DW delivered before her first sched check at 24 weeks and 5 days. She delivered early due to what they think was an "incompetant cervix". We now know this for future children, but we got VERY lucky that we didn't lose our twins.(these were our first kids)

Many women have miscarriages before they discover they can have a cervix issue, so I am all for the checks. Better to be safe than sorry.

Chances are, she will be stiched up and on bed rest her next pregnancy.
