Except for my very first appt, my dr never checked things down there. So at my las appt, 34 weeks I asked him to check and see if I was dilating at all. So he did and my cervix was soft but not open yet. I dont think he would of checked unless I asked so you might want to ask your dr at your next appt. By the way does anyone have any idea how long a cervix can be "soft" for before opening up?

Well I go to my peri once a month and for awhile i was going weekly due to high fluid in both sacs. They have told me the length of my cervix is that the same as the doc checking me?????? I haven't seen my peri in 3 weeks and go next week to him and I go this week to my OB.

Yes they should periodically, say every 2/3 weeks check the length of your cervix. It is usually done by U/S with the tube thingy (not sure what it is called) that goes inside (transvaginal) and they check your cervix and sometimes the tech will also give a quick look at the babies for you, at least mine did.

They checked mine right at the beginning when they did a pap and then they didn't check it again until I had to go to the hospital for contractions. That was at 24 or 25 weeks or something like that. They checked the next time I went in to see the doctors to make sure it was still closed. Then, they checked it again via ultrasound about a week later. So..if I didn't have that scare with contractions, I have no idea when they would have checked after that first pap??! I would ask them to check your cervix just for curiosity sake. I mean, if your dilated, it could still mean you have a bit before you go into labor but I would want to know!!

We did one at 27 weeks and this week will do one for 30 weeks. I think I may have them every 2 weeks with my FFN tests.

have been having them w/ my u/s's so one at 23wks and one at 28wks so far--

and as far as soft before dilating, etc. no clue though I'm pretty sure as long as they can see it's still long, not effacing or dilating (can check w/ u/s probe) that there isn't a real worry.

wish I had a better answer for you.

I have transvaginal at every u/s since 14 weeks. I had a manual at 22 weeks. So far, so good.

No transvaginal u/s OR manual cervix checks till I was 38 weeks. My last transvaginal u/s was at 7 weeks when I was released from my RE's care (my twins are IVF) I got regular abdominal u/s at every appt to check growth, heartbeats and fluid.

Mine does then at every 2 week apt. He started at 22 weeks, they are done manually. I have had a couple throughout because of problems that have come up. When we go to weekly apt's he will do them weekly then. I am sure they also check when they do u/s, but this is not very frequent it will be six weeks between u/s when we go again. I think it depends on the dr. comfort level and philosophy on things.

I did not have one manual cervix check with the twins. I had an U/S every two weeks and a couple times, she had them check during the U/S, but as long as I wasn't having regular contractions she wasn't concerned.

My first check was at the peri via transvaginal u/s at 19 weeks and I will see him every four weeks to get another u/s (abdominal and transvaginal).

I had a transvaginal u/s at 14 weeks, to check cervical length .... that's how we found out we were having twins!
Had another check at 20 weeks, with my Level II u/s, and then had another transvaginal check when I went in with a preterm labor scare. (that was just shy of 24 weeks)

I'm not sure when they are planning on checking again. I had a growth scan at 24 weeks, and will be seeing the OB next week (26w).

I turned 6 months on Sunday, I had my appt. yesterday and have been having braxton hicks since I was 18 weeks. So yesterday my doctor gave me a cervix check, and put me on bed rest, and gave me medicine to take twice a day and I'm scheduled for another ultrasound next friday.

I had a trans vaginal at 6wks 1 day, that's how we found out we were expecting twins. I never had another trans vaginal u/s just an abdominal, and no cervex check either, hmmmm good question.

I've never had a manual cervix exam for this PG - I'm almost 34 weeks. They check it at my bi-weekly ultrasounds if I ask but I don't think my doc would check unless I was reporting any pre-labor symptoms.

i just recently had one but that was because i was in the hospital for placenta previa. i have a feeling they will continue from here on out (i'll know monday at my next appt) but if i had had no problems i doubt they would've begun until after 30 weeks since my docs office treat a twin pregnancy just like a regular pregnancy until 30 weeks and then we get special. the high-risk u/s specialist i'm at also hasn't done one but i'm thinking he too will start doing vaginal u/s at my next appt but only due to the previa.

Mine were done when ever I got my US (not transvaginal, regular US), so every 2 weeks starting at 24 weeks or so. After about 32 weeks I think they stopped checking since I had never had a problem with Early labor or dialation etc.

He didn't do regular progression manual dialation checks at the end. There is no medical need for them and they are not indicative of going into labor so they are unnecessarily invasive and can bring infection inside your body.

im currently 36 weeks pregnant and havnt had a vaginal exam.. my doc told me that as long as i wasnt experiencing any symptoms, he didnt find the need to check me as that itself can bring on preterm labor
