cervical lengths!

just wandering what everyone cervix are measuring. just got home from a hospital stay because my cervic went from 2.0-2.5 to 1.2-1.8 in a week and got the steroid shots. im 27 weeks along. kinda scared. just wandering if anyone is in the same situation i am. thank you

 

Yes. I was there, too!
I was put on bedrest at 18 weeks because of a shortening cervix. At 19 weeks it got even shorter, so I got the cerclage. Then, continued bedrest. Mine went down to between 1.7-1.9 around 27-28 weeks. I was going every other week for an ultrasound. The last time it was checked I was 30 weeks. It was around 1.3-1.4.
Thirty weeks was the last time I had it measured. I remember the specialist saying I had "won the war" when I went in there at 30 weeks. That is why he didn't need to measure it anymore after that. I didn't go back until 34 weeks for a growth check and that is when fluid was a little low on Baby A, so I had to go in for all of those NST's.
My water broke at 35 weeks 5 days. Babies were great, no NICU time at all.

I had the steroid shots, too! Are you on bedrest? Stay on your side, lying down. I ONLY got up to go to the bathroom and move from the bed to the couch.

 

Well they said said when i come in next week and its shorter that they will keep me on hospital bedrest at least til its gets long or untl i am 34 weeks. at home now, yes i am only on pelvic rest. just no setx, lifting, pushing, pulling, stairs....etc. they said i can do daily woushold work but just keep feet up as much as i can. i have 2 other children and one is in school, so to be a complete couch potatoe is out of the question. Im just so scared. See i had a LEEP 9which they take out a chunk of cervix) back in feb 07. and i believe that is what is causing this. Because i have now for 3 weeks not had but 2 BRAXTON HICKS an hour. and when i get monitored they pick up NO contractions. so really....its an incompetent cervix in my eyes and i guess i the only thing i can do is prevent gravity from putting pressure on it. so i am goin to try to rest as much as possible! also....when they say NO SEX....i understand NO penetration but if we "fool" around other than that....and i have an orgasm....i get the typical contraction. is that BAD? should i refrain from ALL orgasms?

 

My Ob Has never even checked for my cervical length!! Is this something that is done routinely with twins?? Should I mention it at my next appt? Although, I am not having any complications like you have had. I hope you can get some rest and keep those babies cooking for atleast 8 more wks! :hug: to you momma!

 

my cervix shrunk to 1.5 cm at 24 weeks, so hospital bedrest for me. At 28 weeks after all the hospital bedrest my cervix still got shorter...0.3 cm (yup, thats 3mm). At that point I was tired of the hospital and my MFM Dr let me go home (my Ffn was negative) on strict bedrest. I made it to 34 weeks with a 3mm cervix. My Dr also stopped checking me at 30 weeks, so i know it was still shortening and I was dilating as well because when my water broke at 34 weeks and 2 days i barely had time to make it to the hospital. Water broke at 5am. fully dilated by the time I got to the hospital and babies were out at 7:31 and 7:34am (vaginally with breech extraction of Twin B). Only had like 5 painful contractions the whole time. Easiest labor ever! But I managed to go 6 weeks with a 3mm cervix length. I also had a LEEP which I am convinced caused my cervix issues. My twins are healthy and great. Only spent 6 days in NICU.

Its not something thats 'normal'. Generally they start checking on a normal basis at about 28 weeks(sometimes later), before that, they will check if you have had a history of PTL or contractions. Mine started checking at about 24weeks, but I informed her I was having BH contractions, and she wanted to make sure that they where not changing my cervix.

 

I had it checked 2 weeks ago when I had some contractions and it was 4.4cm so that was great. (23+weeks)
Starting next week (26+ weeks), I will have it checked every 2 weeks.

 

I'm in the same boat. My cervix was 1.8 cm last week at my ultrasound which bought me a weekend trip into the hospital for monitoring. Now I am on "restricted activity", but am having no contractions at least and my ffn test was negative (yay!). We also are trying progesterone suppositories because a study last year shows it's very promising and has minimal side effects, so we figured "why not". I'm 28 weeks today and so far so good.

Unfortunately it seems like it's just a waiting game...they don't really know if it'll be an issue or not.

 

ya! that is exactly how i am feeling....just waiting! my ffn test came back negative also! i have NO contractions.....and it seems like i just wanna yell.... WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!?????? lol im going crazy over here not knowing why and when! i mean if i was having contractions then at least i would have an answer to the situation and the meds would work....but im not! well i hope the best to you all! i go the 16th and 27th for an ultrasound and so forth so i might be in the hospital AGAIN! arrrrrrrrrr............ all i wanna do is just CRY! i dont feel i need to take my girls to the pumpkin patch, which is a tradition, im scared i am going to be in the hospital while they are out trick or treating which drives me crazy! i just feel like i am letting my other two down. they are so young i dont think they fully understand! thank you all for your answers. they made me feel better and not so alone! i just hope i can hold out til AT LEAST 32 weeks

 

My cervix has been in the 4s most of the time; I think earlier at one point it was 3.7, but usually it's 4.1 or more.

don't worry. mine was under 1 cm for 6 weeks, before i went. just really take it easy!

 

jess ..... wow wow.... I am in the exact same position almost.... I am 27 weeks, cervix length 1.6 went down from 2.3 last week, just had the steroid shots...... but I also have a cerclage that is struggling to hold. I had a leep procedure when I was 19. I have lost 1 previous pregnancy to a weak cervix......... and yes having sex in this condition is obviously not a good idea but i just wanted to tell you to be careful with fooling around and orgasms from my own experience it can also affect your cervix in weakening. It is so good to see the women who responded to your post with wonderful success stories it gives me a lot of hope thank you to all of them. I have a weird question also ..... to women who have weak cervix's did anyone experience a thick or heavy discharge often up until your cervix began to shorten????

No, and this is a big thing my doc told me to watch out for is changing discharge (can be a sign of PTL). Have you talked to your doc about the heavy discharge? Could also be different because I don't have a cerclage.

And Jess NO orgasms or nipple stimulation either! Both can stimulate your body to start contracting. I'd personally stay away from all nookie on your end just to be on the safe side. But female orgasm certainly can help speed along labor, not what you want right now.

 

Same thing happened to me! I was on modified bedrest from 22 weeks. I took it pretty easy and followed all of the doctor's instructions. I went for frequent ultra sounds. And guess what? My boys stayed inside until they were induced at 37.5 weeks!! I hope you have the same luck. Take it easy, put your feet up, and let everyone else do the running around. You can catch up after the babies are born - I haven't sat down in 19 months!

 

I was put on bedrest at 17 weeks for a short cervix, around 2.5cm. We knew I had a short cervix from a LEEP to start with. It stayed that way for about 8 weeks. At 25 weeks it was down to 1.9. At 27 weeks it was down to 1.3. At 28 weeks it was down to .75cm and I finally had a positive fFN test (previous fFN's were negative). So, we did steroid shots just in case and they were convinced I would not go much further. Well, I'm almost 31 weeks and still hanging in there. I've been on bedrest for 14 weeks now (although, I'm sure I get up much more often that I'm supposed to). I've been told that it could be any day now for over three weeks. I was really scared that I would deliver early, but I've beat the odds and feel really good about how far I've made it.
