I have been very closely monitored throughout my pregnancy and feel I am getting adequate care but I am concerned with the fact that they don't check to see how long my cervix is on my ultrasounds. I see the OB once a week with a ultrasound everytime and the MFM every other week and neither one of the offices checks the length of my cervix. I have asked the ultrasound techs how long my cervix is and they say 'O are we checking that? we usually have to check that with the internal ultrasound thing (dont remember what its called) but I don't think we are measuring your cervix length' They did check it one time when I asked (I was about 30 weeks) but is this normal bc it seems like everyone else knows how long their cervix is measuring.

Well, I just know from my experience of my cervix shortening very quickly and without me having any indication it was, I am glad my peri did check that. :good: He started at 17w with all twin/triplets pregnancies.

My daughter was checked at 14 weeks and 23 weeks. Her OB said he would not check it after this point because it would only get shorter. She was 4.5 at her first check and 3.7 at 23 weeks. I guess he didn't foresee any problems.

I don't know what my cervical length is either - I think they look at it at my u/s which are every four weeks - but no one ever tells me. Doc just says that everything is fine and he checks it at my appointments - so far long and closed is as much detail as I have gotten.

I get mine checked every 2 weeks. But I think they are concerned about preterm labor, since I am only 26 weeks. They are now having me come in every 3 weeks, since my cervix length has been great.

So maybe at this point they are not concerned about it? I would talk to the doctor though and ask why they are not checking it!

at my last appointment with MFM they didn't check it and I was surprise and asked and was told because I am already 32 weeks I will have the last check in a week at 33 week and they didn't check the cervix after 34 weeks because it is safe to have the babies after 34 weeks.
so I assume they didn't check it anymore after 34 weeks.

My peri checks mine every 2 weeks. This has been done from the time I hit 18 w.Its very helpgul since the length suddenly declined to 1.8 from 3.4 at 26 w and had the scare of pre term labor.I have been on modified bed rest ever since and thankfully, the cervix has been at a stable 2.1 for a month now.Supposedly everything below 3 is bad.

They told me that they stop checking it at 32 w . After that ,they will stop it because the cervix starts to change even in a normal case especially with multiples.

I was checked up until 34 weeks, I believe, via T/V U/S. But as pp mentioned, at this point shortening is normal, and the less 'fishing around' up there the better, as it can bring on labor.

I have no idea what my cervical length is either. The peri checked it once around 24 weeks, and then my OB checked it at 28 weeks during a growth scan just by taking a measurement (not with the internal thingy the peri used). It was a good length both times so I don't think they feel the need to measure it every time because like a previous poster said they expect it to get shorter as you get closer to the due date.
