Cervical length in twin pregnancies

I'm wondering about statistics surrounding cervical length (as measured by t/v ultrasound) in twin pregnancies. I'm sure that the cervix shortens sooner than in singleton pregnancies, but what are "normal" rages/values? All I can find online is that a 20-25 week measurement less than 2.5 cm (25 mm) is somewhat predictive of delivery before 34 weeks.

FWIW, mine measured 3.7 cm at 21 weeks, so I'm asking more academically at this point than based on an actual concern (at least not yet, LOL!)

In lieu of statistics, anyone have experiences to share? TIA!!

Mine was at 5.5 at 28 weeks - and my OB commented that I'd be able to keep those babies inside forever! I sure hope not ... By my 32 week appointment last week, I was at 3.7. I asked if I should be concerned by the difference and the NP that did the ultrasound said that anything over 3 was great - that it was not shortening at an alarming rate and is likely due to gravity more than anything. I have not had any signs of PTL.

Wow, Amy - 5.5 cm?! That is AMAZING!! You are my cervical length hero, LOL.

Please, tell me these are your first children? I am feeling totally inadequate at 3.7 cm with #3 and #4!!

I don't remember exactly, but I know mine was a little over 2cm at 17 weeks, because I was put on bedrest then for that. They didn't think I needed a cerclage because I had previously had a LEEP procedure and they knew it was short to begin with. It was down to .7cm :shok: at 27 weeks!! I made it all of the way to 32 weeks with a VERY short cervix and actually that's not the reason for the early delivery. So, on my non-expert opinion, your cervical length sounds good to me!

    Good luck!

I was placed on bedrest at 27 weeks with a length of 1.6 no changes since I've been in bed!! I'm 29 weeks now.

Nope - these are #3 and #4 for me as well and I've been tight like a drum with the first two as well. Just lucky, I guess. Glad I have a scheduled C - otherwise I'd be freaking out at my OB's comment about being able to keep them in there forever! I am fairly miserable at the moment and think 5 more weeks of pregnancy fun sounds like an eternity ...

As of yesterday, mine is 4cm and I am 27 weeks. It was 2.5cm when I was about 20 - 22 weeks but have been off my feet a whole lot and it did lengthen some :)

Well mine was 0.2cm (yes 0.2) at 16 weeks, so needless to say I delivered prior to 34 weeks. I had an emergency cerclage and spent the rest of my pregnancy on bedrest.

Maybe this is a silly question, and I'm sure I'll find out at my peri apt on monday morning.. BUT...

How exactly do they measure the length of your cervix? And is it anything like checking for dilation, or maybe why is it done?

I have to get mine checked every few weeks right now due to a previous cone biopsy (so far holding steady at 4.5cm :good: ).
They measure me by a transvaginal ultrasound; not very pleasant but doesn't last long - takes them about 3-5 minutes.
