I have noticed that many people talk about the measuring the cervix, etc. When do they start doing this normally? I go every 4 weeks and have an u/s each visit but I have never had them mention my cervix or anything. I do not even know if they have measured it before or not. I go back in the morning and I am now 22 wks so I will ask this time.

The peri I went to started cervical measurements on all twin/triplet pregnancies at 17w. It actually caught me off guard when they said they were going to do that at 17w since I had my 5 year old with me and thought I was just there for an u/s. But I am very glad they started then. :good:

I have only had my cervix measured once at 18 weeks when I was spotting a little. I see my OB and my Peri alternating weeks and neither think its necessary to measure my cervix if things are going well! Good luck with everything!

My peri's office starts measuring cervix at 18w and stops at 30w .The check is done once every two weeks.

Well I asked today and they woudl check it just to ease my mind but they do not normally check it if everything is showing normal. He said they take a quick peak during ultrasounds and if anything started looking abnormal they would start measuring. So I guess it really depends on your body and your Dr now. Thanks

My OB never measured until I started having a lot of contractions and being monitored at 24w. Now I am going every week for a check-up and he has measured each appt. Not sure if he is going to continue from now on.

Mine did it from 16 weeks to 24 weeks...they said that after 24 weeks a cerclage wouldn't hold anyway...

My doctor started measuring at the 28 week mark. I hadn't been having any contractions until then.

Mine was to be measured every 3 weeks, starting in the second trimester. But my first measurement found it so short I had an emergency cerclage and then it was measured every 1-3 weeks after that.

Mine has been measured via (external) ultrasound at every appointment as far as I know. They don't tell me the measurement unless I ask (I assume they would say something if it were a problem but mine is still long - knock on wood!). This last time (29 weeks) she said that it was getting harder to measure with the ultrasound because I'm so big. They haven't done an internal on me yet, my dr said it carries a (VERY low) risk that it could cause bleeding or labor so she prefers to just do via ultrasound unless there appears to be a problem.
