I read over the sticky for starting solids but it really didn't say which cereal is next after rice cereal and then what's after that...We started the boys on rice cereal a couple weeks ago and have moved onto the oatmeal but what's next?? And then after that?? Do you ever use the rice cereal again or mix it with other 1st foods??

:babyflips: (Just had to add that cause it's cute!!)

    TIA!

I've only ever used those two, so I'm not sure what else is out there. You can use whichever one they like best. :good: My two always liked oatmeal better then rice. As for mixing it with other 1st foods, we definately did that and it made them love it even more! Once they were a bit older (around 8 months) we started mixing it with yogurt (YoBaby) and that was their favorite by far.

:babyflips: <---- you're right, this baby is cute!

My kids didn't care for plain cereal, so I mixed it with other first foods. Here is an article on grains at wholesomebabyfood.com.

I've only given rice cereal and oatmeal so far, but I just got a box of Mixed cereal to try too. Mine do not care for the rice, but love the oatmeal, so I have plenty of that on hand, and plan to continue using that, unless they really love the mixed too, but I bet the oatmeal will still be their favorite.

We used the rice to mix in Stage 1 foods. We did rice, oatmeal, orange veggies, yellow veggies, green veggies, meats, fruits (per dr. orders). There is no right way to do it! We continued to give oatmeal for breakfast well into 11 months b/c they loved it so much.

We only ever used rice and oatmeal. We also used fruits and veggies to spice those cereals up. I have seen barley out there but I never tried it.

Here are my two cents worth. My doctor, who happens to have a son a day older than my babies, said he is introducing food in this order: vegetables, meat, fruits, and the B-R-O-W order of grains - Barley, Rice, Oats, Wheat. That is what we have started and so far it's going well. Enjoy the mess!

We did Barley next and then the mixed cereal.

We did Rice, Oat, then Barley. They seem to like the Oat the best!

Max & Lily HATED rice cereal. We have a video where it sounds like Max says Yuck after a bite. They both would turn their heads into the high chair and scream and cry crocodile tears. We said not worth it. About a month later we tried oatmeal with their morning fruit between bottles. They loved it and we have never switched. I see the mixed grain and others, but after the rice cereal experience I don't want to try it. Why fix what is not broken right now and isn't oatmeal great for adults anyway :p .

we didn't start our babes on solids until almost 8 months... so I'm not sure what is age appropriate for younger babies, but we tried brown rice first, then did millet, then barley and oats. we don't do much rice any more but I do a mix of the other three since they are more nutritious. we haven't started wheat yet, but I guess will soon since its in everything. I guess I've been waiting until later just to fend off any allergies...

I liked the BROW order of cereals, I was confused too... but its great to have a certain order to do them in.
