First just wondering....if they are receiving rice cereal in their bottles due to reflux do I still need to spoon feed them some, or can I just do fruits/veggies?

Also how old were your LO's when you stopped rice cereal/oatmeal?

We put rice cereal in one boys bottle to help with mild reflux. I kept it in the bottle while I fed them rice from the spoon. We did rice for one week, oatmeal one week, then started on orange veggies. Everyone does it differently. If you trust your pedi, I would ask them what they suggest. I felt so clueless at that point, I just did what the dr. suggested. It all worked out great!

I don't have experience with reflux, but we did do rice cereal for a week to let them get used to it and then started with veggies a week after that. We would do cereal as part of breakfast (our pedi suggested to start it at the time of the day they are at their happiest for us that was the AM) and then did the veggie of the week at the next feeding. Once we cycled through all the veggies, then we added fruit the following feeding.

Ours still love baby cereal at 14 months, we've tried regular oatmeal and cream of wheat with them and they hated it.

We did rice cereal for reflux too, and when we started it off of spoons they hated it...go figure! I guess they were sick of it! I went almost immediately to veggies and fruits.

We did rice cereal in the bottles. We also started with rice cereal, and then on oatmeal. We still use oatmeal almost every morning with a fruit or avacado for breakfast. When the box runs out, I am going to try regular oats with a fruit/avacado, or yogurt with a fruit/avacado for breakfast (haven't started on yogurt yet though).

Nothing says that you have to use rice cereal at all. You can go straight to veggies. Avacado is great for a first food.

I agree with the other posts but just wanted to add that we used cereal to thicken all of the purees so that they would stay on the spoon on the way to their mouths. We did this until we stopped using purees altogether at 13 months.
