I'm thinking of trying to put cereal in my twins' bottles- for my dd all the time to help with spitting up & at night for both to help sleep (they were sleeping thru the night but have been waking up once for the last few nights). Does it really help for either of these things? Also, do you need to use a certain type of nipple so that it fits thru?

I start putting a small amount of cereal in L & M's bottle around 2 months old b/c of reflux, it helped with that, but I saw absolutely NO sign of it helping with the sleep issue. Heck, they still don't sleep all night.
That's just my 2 cents. [IMG]

Doesn't really help with the sleep in my experience...but it does wonders for the reflux! We have Dr. Brown's bottles and use either a size 3 or y-cut with the cereal. [IMG]

I did not notice that it helped them sleep longer, but did help with their reflux. I put 4tsp. in a 5 oz. bottle now. I use the fast flow nipples and have no trouble with them.

I believe it is a choking hazard... but you could also try AR Lipil. It has rice starch in it, and it was the only thing my daughter could keep down for months besides breast milk.

Addie suffered majorly from reflux but our pedi did not want us to do the cereal in a bottle at all. She stated that it was meant to be eat with a spoon and not through a bottle. We did the Zantac which was great and some other little things she had suggested. Addie would wake a lot during the night even at 6-9 mos of age most likely due to the reflux. During that period, we got to where we would just automatically move her to the swing and she would be able to go right back to sleep for the remained of the night. I weaned her from this after 9 mos and she was good to go. Good luck!

Our pediatrician recommended the cereal for reflux and it has done wonders! Helps tremendously with spitting up but it never did anything with my girls sleep. We use Dr. Brown's and the Y cut nipple. We also use oatmeal vs rice b/c they quickly got pretty constipated with all the rice. We are on meds too unfortunately but it is so much better for the cereal to fix the situation than have to medicate them IMO. Good luck!
