Hi my name is Marni and I am 20 weeks pregnant with twin boys. this past Friday I had to have a cerclage placed due to incompetant cervix. My doctor said that I was shortened to 1.7 cm and she regained up to 2.4 after the sticth and still had close to 1/2 inch before. Has this happened to anybody else and what are the chances of it working? I am really worried.

I had a cerclage placed at 14 weeks due to an incompetant cervix and a previous loss. I took it extremly easy and had my OB appts every couple of weeks. I was on modified bedrest most of my pregnancy and used a wheelchair when I left the house. I had my cerclage removed at 32 weeks and gave birth to my twins at 34 weeks.

Congrats on your pregnancy. Please PT me if you have any other questions on the cerclage.

I had an emergency cerclage placed at 16w5d, it took my cervix from 0.2cm to 3.5cm. I was still put on bedrest because of how short it was prior to the cerclage.

At 22 weeks it had shortened back down to 1cm due to contractions. I was put on very strict bedrest and meds to stop the contractions. At 24 weeks I was hospitalized for bedrest (for 4 weeks). Everything remained stable that whole time, and although my cervix was still ver short (1cm) it was stable so they let me go back home on strict bedrest.

I delivered at 31 weeks because baby A PROM'd and she was in danger of pushing her cord out with her feet. Otherwise, even though she'd PROM'd, they were going to try to keep them in there for one additional week.

They spent 5 and 6 weeks in the NICU and are perfectly healthy and thriving now. I had steroid shots at 24 weeks and a rescue dose 48 hours before delivery.

Bedrest for me was up to use the bathroom and fix myself lunch when DH was at work, otherwise laying down. My peri did let me go out once to get a haircut. As my cervix shortened again it became no stairs at all (my bedroom and shower is upstairs). And then of course hospital bedrest (which totally stinks).

Thanks for the info. I am very hopeful that this works. It will be a very long pregnancy if bedrest is ordered for the duration. At this point I go back to the Doc. on Wed. and she will see where we stand.
How long after the cerclage did you start to shorten again?

About 4 or 5 weeks after the cerclage. I had contractions that I did not feel.

I had a cerclage with my single pregnancy due to shortening cervix, they removed it at 36 or 38 weeks with no complications & I delivered right at 40 weeks. With my twin pregnancy they put the cerclage in as a precaution & my cervix has been great with no bedrest & I am at 34 weeks. They are taking it out at 36 weeks. Stay positive & take it easy & hopefully everything will go great.

Thank you for the positive feedback. I have a doctors appt. today and I am praying that she tells me nothing has changed. I will keep everyone posted.

Good news! I went to the doctor, Grant it it's only been since last Friday but so far no changes has been made... [IMG] I hope it continues as it has. Thanks for all of the posts. I appreciate the support.

Sounds like it is going very well so far, congrats [IMG]

I had a double cerclage placed at 21 weeks after I had started funneling. I was also in PTL and placed on strict bedrest. My daughter's water broke at 32 weeks and when they did my c/s they mentioned that my cervix/cerclage were still holding strong - it was just my little troublemaker wanting out [IMG]

    Best of luck to you.
