Do you think a doc should snip a cerclage before first painful signs of labor or after labor starts? Would 34 to 35 weeks be too early according to your docs?

My doctor said the cerclage had to come out at the first signs of real labor so it wouldn't rip. (I had the 4-point 'drawstring' style of cerclage.)

I ended up making it very far. At first we planned to cut it out at 35wks, but I still doing super great, no contractions (not even a few) so we ended up waiting until 36wk.

I think if it were me, I'd wait to 35wks at least if you can. (Just to make sure those babies stay put a little longer!)

My peri is planning to take mine out around 34-35 weeks if I make it that far. I am contracting a lot every day though so that might be why. I am petrified of tearing through my cerclage, but they have assured me that it is fairly common and typically not even painful. I'm actually more worried about the long term damage though. When are your doctors planning to remove yours?

I had a cerclage placed with my DS. It was removed at 35w3d and he was born less than 48 hours later. Thankfully, he did well. With these two, the original plan was to remove it at my scheduled c-section at 38 weeks. I'm sure that plan will change as we get closer, depending on how things are progressing.

Some days, I have lots of painless contrax - but i never have spotting or even discharge. Still, the thought of tearing through makes me nervous. I talked to my doc this morn, and he says he would snip it at 36 weeks unless I was feeling really anxious about it and the babies were doing well. Then he'd consent to do it earlier. He was very reassuring that he didn't think it would just suddenly rip.

So I do have some say in the matter. I'd certainly like to wait until 35 plus weeks if my body will hold out. Ahhh, the waiting here on hospital bedrest. . . I just seem to wallow in my anxieties.
