Hi , my name is Liz and I wanted to share my story because this site was my lifeline during my pregnancy and gave me alot of hope. I was preggers with boy/girl twins and at 20 weeks I had weird brown discharge and went to the hospital was showing a little bit of an irritable uterus but pounded a lot of water and it went away, I was monitored overnight and the length of my cervix was checked , which was fine over 4 cm. That day I got home and bent over to pick something up and my back went out, I could hardly straighten up and I spent 3 days laying down before it went away. This freaked me out because I was in great shape so I took it easy the rest of the week..... and i mean really easy I just sat around alot and relaxed. After a week I had started to feel better and one day went to the grocery store and carried a small bag of groceries and something just did not feel right. The next day I went to the doc and my cervix was checked and it was 1.8 cm with funneling THIS doctor said oh it's fine and sent me home. That night I started feeling pressure and my DH and I were waiting in the parking lot when doc office opened the next morning. A different doc checked and yes I was dialating .( I was 21.5 weeks) I had a emergency cerclage put in 3 hours later. My doctor told me he had to actually push baby girls head back as he did it . I spent 12 weeks on bedrest , had to take nifedipine for constant pre- term contractions. I made sure that I drank tons of water and I gained at least a pound a week because if the babies came early i wanted them to be as big as possible. I made it all the way o 33 weeks and then I started to really go into labor and began dialating , so they removed the cerclage and put me on hospital bedrest they wanted me to delay giving birth as long as possible in the next few days I developed pre eclampsia and then I was induced. Our labor lasted 12 hours I gave birth vaginally and naturally to my twins. baby girl weighed 4.10 lbs and baby boy weighed 4.5 lbs . They spent 11 days in the NICU and then came home with us. They are now 4 months old , healthy, and both over 12 lbs. !!!!!!! If you are on bedrest keep your heart calm and stay determined .......... you can do it !!!!!!!!!

I had a similiar experience... I went to the peri at 16 weeks and my cervix was over 4, at 18 weeks it was 2.2 and 19 weeks it was 1.5 with funneling I was put on strict bedrest and told to come back in three days.. Three days later it was 1.3 and funneling had increased, they sent me directly to labor and delievery to be monitored and prepare for an emergency cerclage. There was no signs of contractions which was a good thing.. At 5 that evening I had the cerclage and was discharged by 11 pm. I have been on bed rest everysince and am currently 29 weeks. I have had no more funneling or contractions but am on progesterone injections weekly and procardia twice daily.

I encourage everyone to do what their doctors tell them and hang in there, I never though I would survive 4 months of bedrest and have already finished 10 weeks.. I am waiting for my precious twins (which we don't know the sex). Then all this will be in thought in the past.
