I'm just doing a bit of research in case a cerclage becomes a reality for me.

    1. If you had a cerclage that wasn't placed early due to known cervix issues, what did your cervix measure when you had the procedure done?

    2. Were you having contractions prior to the cerclage being placed?

    3. Is local anesthetic used during the procedure or do they give you twilight IV anesthetic or how is it done?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. I had my cerclage put in at exactly 22wks and my cervix was down to 1.5cm that day.

    2. I was not having contractions prior to the cerclage. They really don't know why my cervix is short, but suspect an incompetent cervix.

    3. I had a spinal and from what I've read, that's the common route to take.

I've been on hospital bedrest since and have remained stable. I honestly think that I would have had these babies extremely early had the cerclage not been done. It was discovered when they put it in that I'd dilated 1cm. (Now closed thanks to the stitch.) So I'm very glad it was done.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!!

    1. Mine was placed at 24w (it was an emergency cerclage), which is when they told me is the latest they will do it. At that point my cervix was less than 1cm, I believe.

    2. Yes, I was admitted to the hospital the day before my cerclage and when they hooked me up to the monitors I was having contractions, but I didn't feel them until after my cerclage was placed.

    3. The anesthetic they used for me was the spinal like they use during a c-section. I did not like it because I felt like I couldn't breathe (I didn't feel that way during my c-section though).

    Good luck Beth!!

I had a cerclage placed with 0.2cm of cervix length (yes, just 2mm). That was at 16w5d.

I was having contractions, which were greatly relaxed with meds and IV fluids.

    I had a spinal anesthetic.

    1. If you had a cerclage that wasn't placed early due to known cervix issues, what did your cervix measure when you had the procedure done?First pg, I had am emergancy cerclage at 18 weeks. I was dilated to 3cm.

I did know this time and had it at 13 weeks, but when I funneled to the stitch (2.3 in length) the DR I saw that day didn't know I had a cerclage and started to tell me that I would need one (I was 19 weeks).

    2. Were you having contractions prior to the cerclage being placed? no

    3. Is local anesthetic used during the procedure or do they give you twilight IV anesthetic or how is it done? I had a block for both. I was offered to be put out too and chose the block.

    1. With my son I got an emergency pessary (ring over the cervix instead of a stitch) cerclage placed at 22 weeks when I was 1cm dilated. On bedrest from 18 weeks to pessary removal and delivery at 35w 6d. Went from 1cm to 3-4cm in 30 seconds after it was removed. PTL at 30 weeks with 100% effacement and stricter bedrest.
    2. not contracting at all
    3. since it was done in-office no meds, it was a quick procedure

    Twins
    1. Got it placed at 13 weeks before I was dilated to anything. Not on bedrest at all, will get the stitch removed at 35w 6d.
    2. not contracting at all
    3. had a spinal since this time it was a stitch cerclage

    1. I had a cerclage put in at 20 wks 5 days and my cervix was .5cm.

    2. I was contracting but they stopped the contractions with IV fluids and meds before they would put it in.

    3. They did a spinal block and it wasn't too uncomfortable.

I was 4 cm dilated,(yes 4 cm) when they placed a emergency cerclage at 23 weeks. They were able to pull it back together and get it to 0.9 cm, and that's the way it stayed till 33 weeks, and mywater broke

    2. Were you having contractions prior to the cerclage being placed?

    None

    3. Is local anesthetic used during the procedure or do they give you twilight IV anesthetic or how is it done?

    I had a spinal.

    Thanks for your help!
