I had twins last year that were stillborn at 21 weeks. This time around my doctor is taking all the precautions we can and so he did a cerclage on Wednesday. I have not had any problems with it, but I don't know anyone that has ever had one. I have looked online and there are a bunch of success stories and very few disaster stories. Just wondering if anyone had any advice for me!

I had gotten a cerclage at 13 weeks with my twins. They are healthy 4 month olds now.

I was never on bedrest with this pregnancy (with my son I was on bedrest for 16 weeks, having gotten a pessary cerclage at 22 weeks being 1cm dialated) My water broke the day before I was going to get the stitch removed. I was 35w 5d along, before the stitch was removed I was about 1-2cm, the peri took the stitch out after my epidural was in for about 20-30 mins, I quickly went to 4-5cm. My labor started at 9am with my water breaking and contractions stayed about 3 mins apart from that time until soon before delivery. I was given pitocin but very low dose since I was progressing so fast naturally. I was moved to the OR when I finally felt I could push. Within about 10 mins of getting in the OR and meeting the staff, I was told to push and my daughter was out at 4:46pm and my B came out after 3 pushes to deliver her breech at 4:49pm. My A weighed 5lbs 10oz and my B weighted 5lbs 3oz and came home with me.

Any questions feel free to message me.

I had an emergency cerclage at 24w, the latest they will do one. And they said it should hold me the rest of my pregnancy. Well somehow it didn't, I have a very strong willed 2 year old now, that kicked her way out somehow at 25w3d. :unknw: That said, despite being born 3 months early, I have very healthy and happy 2 year olds now. Good luck and I am very sorry about your loss. :love0028:

I had one put in at 19 weeks due to a shortening and funneling cervix (I’m 30 now) and I am soooo glad I did it… I’m not bed ridden like I was with my son (at 24 w) and I really feel I will make it to 36… but we will see… positive thoughts!!!

I had an emergency cerclage at 20 weeks and I have two healthy baby boys that were born at 35 weeks 6 days due to a "last minute" TTTS scare. I was on bed rest for the remaining 16 weeks, but I'd do it all over again in a heart beat. When I get pregnant again, my doctor wants me to get the abdominal cerclage as soon as I find out. So...success story here as well! Good luck!

I had one at 20 weeks - my cervix shortened to less than a cm and I started funneling. Put on terb and Prog 17 as well as bed rest at 18 weeks. Several trips to the L&D for PTL and a positive Ffn at 29 weeks- I was so scared I would deliver my babies too early. Well, my cerclage busted through 3 weeks ago, and they took me off all meds and bed rest- I swore I thought the babies would fall right out then ! LOL- Now, I am almost 37 weeks and my doctor will be inducing me next week. So- keep positive- I know the cerclage among all the other things were what helped my babies stay in and keep on growing! Sounds like you are in good hands.

    Quick Question Carrie

I’m almost afraid to ask… what did it feel like… how did you know? I mean I have thoughts of it being so painful you knew… but were there other signs? Spotting? I just have had that fear the whole time its been in…

Also, I find it VERY interesting your Cerclage is gone, no meds, no bed rest and your still hold’in in… good for you!!!!!

I had a cerclage, an emergency cerclage, at 16 weeks when they found my cervical length to be non-existant and I was funneling. I was on bedrest from that point on, part of it hospital bedrest, but I made it to 31 weeks and my DD's are doing just great.

I battled contractions the entire time too, thus all the extra precaution. Baby A's water broke at 30w5d, and I started dilating, but my cerclage still held strong. If your cerclage was preventative, that is great. Just make sure you are still being monitored very regularly.

First off I am sorry to hear of your loss.

I had a loss at 20.5 weeks due to an incompetant cervix. They tried to do 2 emercency cerclages but both were unsucessful. I found out I was pregnant with the girls 3.5 months after my loss. When I went to the OB we immediatly discussed getting the cerclage in place. At around 13.5 weeks it was put in. I had no complications at all but remained on modified bedrest the entire time only standing if absolutly necesary. I used a wheelchair when I went to stores and the mall to keep all pressure off my cervix and layed down at home when watching tv. I really was very careful.

At 32 weeks I went in for my non stress tests where it was noticed I was contracting every 2 minutes. I was admitted to labor and delivery where I went into labor that night. I was given the whole premature talk, shots in the butt the whole shebang.... That night I went in and had my cerclage taken out. When the cerclage was taken out all contractions started to slow and while I remained dialated a bit the labot stopped and I was rolled back into my room. I spent the next couple weeks in and out of the hospital spending 1 night at home and 1 full day (for my baby shower). I finally gave birth to the girls at 34 weeks. They spent 10 days in the NICU and did great.

I honestly think if it was not for the cerclage I would not have been able to carry them for as long as I did. That was my miracle stitch and my girls are my miracle babies. I just only wish that my cerclage with Jimmy would have been able to perform the same magic.

If you have any questions at all please PM me. A preganancy after a loss is rough. Every little kick and non kick for that matter is so much different. It is a much more emotional ride for many different reasons. You will be in my thoughts.
