Cerclage + bedrest = misery

I had a cerclage on Tuesday. It was not the most pleasant thing I've had to do, since I was awake through it but there were no complications. Now I'm on bedrest. My peri and ob have different opinions on bedrest as do my husband and I. So I wouldn't say it's been strict. I get up to go to the bathroom and take a shower. I'm usually laying flat or in a reclined position. It's so hard to give up control and depend on other people. My mom was here for 5 days and stayed an extra day because I spent the whole day crying yesterday. I hate being a burden to my husband. [IMG]
I'm so worried about money and losing my job. I'm worried about getting totally out of shape and gaining too much weight and more importantly losing my babies. I've got a lot of things to keep me busy for awhile. I went for a car ride with the seat reclined back yesterday to Lowes with my husband and mom. Even though I sat in the car, I just had to get out, I was so miserable. My mom got me a lounge chair for outside and some bird feeders so I can watch birds from my couch. It sounds lame but it's kind of fun to watch when you get bored of TV.

It's going to be a long road ahead. I don't know how you bedrest ladies do it. [IMG] I feel so depressed. I know I've got to take it one day at a time. I think I'll be a little happier once I get to 24 weeks and everyday after that will be a blessing. Any tips or ideas to make it easier would be great.

    Hi there!
I know where your coming from. I fortunately did not have a cerclage, but I have been on bedrest since my 20th week.
I can completely relate to the depression. My 4th-5th week of bedrest was the worst (so far). I hit a really bad patch. My hubby was out of the country and my mom was here taking care of me and my two boys. The contractions I have been having starting letting up a little so I finally begged the Dr to let me out just to get some clothes. That really helped!!! Buying clothes was next to impossible but at least I was out of the house.
I have a feeling the boredom is cyclical. I hope you have some friends that can come and visit. That's really nice. Now that it's spring, all I want to do is be outside. Watching the birds seems to be a great idea.
Everyweek you make it longer is a huge milestone. Celebrate it! My hubby has celebrated every week. Some with flowers, others with a special dinner, even Ice cream [IMG]. You can do it! If I can you can. I hope you start feeling better soon.

[IMG]Hang in there! Bedrest is so difficult, and yes you do have a long way to go, but try to focus on what the end result is...2 healthy babies. [IMG]

Rent whole seasons of TV shows. If you've never watched 24, I most highly recommend it. I never thought I'd like it but now I am hooked and it will pass your time well.

I went on bedrest at 16w4d and had an emergency cerclage. Bedrest is awful, but it really, really works. Stick with it. I know the urge to get up and out is overwhelming sometimes, and I know you feel like a tremendous burden. And I had just started a new position about 10 weeks prior to my bedrest and I was scared for my job as well.

But the babies are the most important. They need you to stay on bedrest and keep them cooking for as long as you can.

Also, if you go to www.sidelines.org you can sign up for a bedrest buddy who will give you tons of support.

Hang in there. I have been in your shoes and looking back, I'd spend another 15 weeks or more on bedrest to have kept my babies out of the NICU.

I feel your pain, do not feel bad about being a burden, you are doing this for 2 precious babies, not for yourself. I was on bedrest from week 20 to 33, and had a cerclage put in at 23 weeks. I hoped to to make it to 24 weeks, and did. Then till 28 weeks, and did. The cerclage saved my babies, I was already 4 cm dilated when they put it in. I watched 10 seasons of Friends, and 6 seasons of ER. Like the previous post said, rent whole seasons, I found them more fun to watch then movies. Another thing that kept me busy was buying a lot of baby stuff on ebay. By the time the babies were born I had everything I needed, all from ebay, except furniture and bedding, and a lot of stuff for a very good price. Hang in there, its tough but doable.
