We saw the doc today and Abby has reflux and she sad to put 1 tablespoon of rice ceral in her formula once a day to help calm the reflux. Christopher has a tough time with his bowel movments and they r really thick like paste- she says to give him juice mixed with is formula once a day . They r only 4 weeks old!!! Anyone else had to do this, this young??
Also my iron is extrmely low and i was told to get Black strap molassas and take it once a day- anyone heard fo this and where do u get it?
Also, do any of you have any miricle cures for stretch marks?? I dont care aboutthe ones from the belly button down, but after having the twins from the belly button up is soo horrible looking! And i still have swelling in my tummy, at my post op check up the doc said that my uterus is still in the lower tummy - how long did it take ur uterus to go back into the pelvis and for all the swelling to go don in the tummy- or atleast enough to wear your clothes again??

We didn't have reflux or constipation issues but I'll answer about the molasses. You can buy it in the grocery store. It will either be by the syrup or the baking goods. One tablespoon is 8% of your iron for the day. It's also a good source of potassium and calcium. HOWEVER, it has a strong and distinctive flavor which doesn't appeal to everyone. I use molasses in my oatmeal and love it but DH freaks out if I add more than a drop to his. There are lots of good iron-rich foods. Check out this link.

we've been giving my girls prune juice every morning since about 6 weeks for constipation, and i've totally heard of the cereal in formula that early. We've been doing it for a while for my girls reflux, but not since that young..

We had to do the cereal in the bottles for reflux and we had to use juice for constipation for my oldest. It seems fairly common. I never had to do molasses myself nor have I found a cure for stretch marks. :( I tried Mederma but no luck so far.

Kajulie - how much do you give? Do you mix it with water? I think I need to start that with one of my little guys who has trouble with poop, but I don't know how much to give.

my ped said to giver the juice in place of the water in the formula... if they eat 4 oz- then mix 4oz juice w/ the formula 1 feeding per day.
Also- when is it ok to soak in a bath after a c-section? i totally forgot to ask my doc last week:( he saidmy incision looked really good and that i could resume normal activities except sex and extrem heavy lifting and gradul increase on abdominal exercises. just wondering.... i go back next tuesday for my 6 week check up.

I would think that you can take a bath now, if he said that everything is ok.

We used cereal in their bottles for reflux, never had to use the juice for constipation, but I know that many people do.

Yep, not unheard of and it works.

We started on rice cereal at 2 months for reflux, and it helped significantly (sp?). We also were told to use a LITTLE prune juice mixed in the formula. I used the light karo syrup and that did the trick as well.

If she is drinking a 4 oz bottle then give her 2 oz formula mixed with 2 oz prune juice. When my dd had constipation my ped had me give her prune juice mixed with water (2oz and 2oz) 4x day (I mean I was to feed that 1 bottle to her in 4 different feedings in addition to her regular formula). Every ped has their different ways but I hope your little ones feel better soon. My girls both had reflux as well. But we didn't start the cereal I think until about 2 months. I wish I could have started earlier if had meant her suffering less.

I would say it's fine to take a bath at this point but a quick call to your doc would probably be best.

I used the Karo syrup too and it worked wonders. I forget the dosage, I think they had suggested a tsp. per ounce of formula but I usually cut that in half and it worked fine. Once thing though, it's messy!!!

MY son had constipation issues at that age, and I started out with a capful of prune juice. The doctor told me to use an ounce or two but I thought that was a lot. A capful to two capfuls usually did the trick. Too much and you'll p**p leaking out of the diapers. I know-my husband tried what the doctor recommended and there was p**p everywhere. As for the cereal, both my girls have reflux and it helped a lot. We were doing a half of a tablespoon of rice cereal per ounce of formula. But be careful because the rice could constipate them, too. Good luck! It's a lot to handle but it'll work out.

When you say prune juice, do you mean baby prune juice (Gerber), or adult? We are doing the Karo syrup thing and I just dont think its working effectively. I did buy a gerber apple prune juice and am thinking of giving her some of that with her formula.

I've found that the best cure for the constipation is a Fibersure - without irritating baby's little tummy with the acidic juices. 1/4 tsp 2 x day should do the trick for 1 month old baby. Also, instead of the rice cereal I used oatmeal - it helps constipation unlike the rice.
As of stretch marks - they fade with the time. The way your belly looks, everyone is different, I got mine completely back by the time the girls were 10 month old. I was breastfeeding and pumping a lot, drinking plenty, eating a little and moving, moving, moving non-stop. I think it all helped to lose nearly 80 lb, I gained during pregnancy and strengthen my muscles. Good luck!
