    Wow, I am still shaking!

The girls are crawling and getting into everything. We keep the floors super clean since they find anything and put it in their mouths. Well, they were on the floor shaking the Gerber Puffs container (the kind that are supposed to dissolve when they hit saliva). One of them popped the top off and puffs went everywhere.

Well - the saw the puffs and started packing them in faster than you can imagine. You would think we never fed them by the fistfuls they were putting in their mouths.

We thought it was kind of cute. The floor is clean. We popped a couple of cute photos of them and then we started pulling them out of the blast zone to get them ready for bed. I was holding both babies while Nick was starting to sweep up the dining room when Allie started choking.

At first it was gagging. She has allergies so she has been doing that for a while. Than she really started gagging. At first I thought she was gagging because she had just eating like half a container of puffs. The gagging turned to her face turning red/purple with her tounge out and her making no noise. I did what I was taught at first had and put her on her belly - face lower than chest, and beat her on the back. She started making a gagging noise and I tried a finger sweep. Whenever I would pick her up so that her head was higher than her chest she would stop making any noise. I kept her on her belly and kept beating on her back while I yelled to my husband to call 911. He started arguing with me but then he saw her.

Our neighber works for EMS and he was here in about 1 minute. Between him and me were able to get her to finally vomit up bloody mucus and then she was fine. The ambulance got here right after that. The checked her out, listened to her lungs and said she was fine. They figured the blood was caused from something scraping her throat. The told us to watch her tonight. If she has anymore bloody mucus to go to the hospital.

Man - I am still shaking and this was a couple of hours ago! I don't think I am going to sleep tonight. She is sleeping on my chest while I write this! I honestly thought those puffs would dissolve! They have been eating puffs for like two months with no problems.

Scared the life out of me - be careful. I don't want this to happen to any of your babies!

OMG Angel, how scary! I am so glad that Allie is ok. Thank God! My guys eat puffs like that and now that I think about, we are just lucky nothing ever happened to them. :hug99:

I hope she is going to be ok tomorrow, forgetting her ordeal!

thank god she is ok! i would have been a wreck. i feed my babies the puffs, but i'm still leary of them choking on them. my dd likes to put more than one in her mouth...so i only try to give her one at a time.

MIne do this too and it makes me crazy. Whenever I feed them any finger foods I portion out one or two bits at a time because otherwise they pack their mouths full of food and I'm so scared of them choking. So glad your baby is ok, what a scary thing to happen.

I'm so glad you were calm enough to do what you had been taught. It is so terrifying how many things can wrong! I sometimes wonder how we've all made it to adulthood!

OMG! I'm so sorry this happened to you! How scary! I was just laughing at my two girls today doing exactly the same thing. Thankfully, they were only able to get one or two puffs into their mouths at a time, but now I know not to just dump a bunch of the puffs in front of them....thanks for the warning! I hope you're all doing better....

Zach eats puffs like there is no tomorrow. Kind of makes you sit down and think.
