Well my boys are soon to be 5mos. (April 25th) and Parker is to big for his infant seat! He weighs 26lbs. and is 24in., We have a Graco Snugride infant carseat.. well it only has 2 slots for the shoulders and he is on the 2nd slot(the tallest slot) and it presses on his shoulders causing to much pressure and discomfort, so when he's in it, all he does is cry, cry, cry.! I don't know what to do, he meets the limits for a front facing convertible carseat, but don't age wise. And I'm a lil' worried to but him one! When did any of you all start putting your babies in the "big boy" seats?

Convertible seats work rear facing as well! We started using them around 4 months old and my kids love them!

What a big boy!!! We didn't move the girls to convertible car seats until they were a year, but I wanted to say that the convertible ones can be used rear facing too. You should probably move him from an infant seat into a rear facing convertible. The one we have is rated from 5lbs to 22lbs for rear facing and up to 40lbs forward facing.

I think since he's big at 5 months you should look at seats that have high weight limits (there are some that go up to 65lbs). You don't want to have to spend a lot of money now and then in a year or two have to buy ANOTHER expensive car seat.

    GL!!!

You will need to get a convertible seat that goes both rear and forward facing. Put it rear facing until he turns one and then you can turn it around.
The link below has great prices.

In the infant bucket seats I was told that the shoulder strap should always come from at or below their shoulder. Would it be more comfortable for him if you put the strap back in the lower slot? I always had it going up and over my babies' shoulders.

    See http://www.chop.edu/consumer/jsp/division/....jsp?id=77972#5
"For infants in rear facing seats, position the harness straps using the slots at or below your child's shoulders."

    1) what is the weight limit on your infant seat? Mine was 22 lbs....
    2) Agree w/pp about getting a higher weight convertible car seat, I think there are some that even go to 80 or 100 lbs. Go to www.car-seat.org, they have a great board there, lots of info

What a big boy! He is definitely too big for his infant carseat and it's not safe for him to be in it anymore. The weight limit is usually 20-22 lbs. Your next step would be a convertible carseat. You would install it rear-facing in your car. The criteria for placing a baby front-facing are 20lbs AND 1 year old so you can turn him forward when he turns one. It is safest to stay rear-facing as long as possible so you don't have to turn him around at 1 year old if you don't want to. Since he is already 26 lbs, look for a convertible carseat that has a rear-facing weight limit of at least 35 lbs.

I had all 3 of my older kids out of the infant seat by 4 months. They, too, were sturdy, squishy babies and ready to move on! Yep, you need to face the next one rear for awhile, but it's all doable.
