I got a bad case of carpal tunnel during the last few months of my pregnancy. I heard it'd go away within the first couple weeks post pardom. The crampyness in the hands have disapated, but the numbness in my fingertips and the really really sensitive touch [I feel EVERYthing ten fold - it's gross] has yet to go away.

My question: How long should I wait until I get nervous about this going away? I'd be so miserable if I had to live with this forever

    Thanks!

I can't say for sure but I think it took mine a good 2 or 3 months to be completly back to normal. I will say that my girls are 14 months and I still have some shooting pains run up my hands sometimes and I do blame it on the carpel tunnel from my pregnancy. It never bothered me before that.

Ditto. I had it severely with my first daughter 12 years ago and although I wouldn't say that it NEVER went away, there were some sensations that would come and go over the years that I had never expereinced before the pregnancy. They were definately not even half as bad as when I was pregnant though and I only noticed them several times a year-definately liveable.

I can honestly say, I think I was more miserable with carpal tunnel and sciatica with my first son than I was with morning sickness. It went away about a month after I had him, but I did physio for it with my Doc's help and wore wrist braces during the day when I was picking him up, etc. Also, try sleeping (I know it sounds weird) with your arms above your head, and ice pack your wirsts a couple of times a day while the babies are sleeping. (Yes, my dear, damn the laundry, damn the dishes....REST THOSE PRETTTY LITTLE WRISTS! :D ) That was the only way I could get any relief. I'm REALLLLLY hoping I don't get it with the twins, but I'm betting I will.)

I developed a lot of pain in my fingers and wrists around 33 weeks.
I could barely make a fist, my fingers and wrists were so sore.
    Then, it turned to numbness.

My girls are seven weeks old now and I still have numbness in my right
hand, especially three fingertips (thumb, pointer, middle).
Now, it feels a lot better.

I was scared there at first thinking it wasn't going away
considering everyone said how much it would be relieved by delivery, which
mine wasn't even one bit! After I delivered, it felt as bad as ever.

I'm a teacher and play a lot of volleyball, so I was so worried! My doctor
told me if it didn't go away in three months to call him and he would send
    me to a specialist.

If this numbness doesn't go away in a few months, I will probably call.

Mine was gone within a few months only to be back intermittently due to tedious tasks.

It was around 6 weeks postpartum that it went completely away.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences ^_^ I will try to limit the use of my hands as much as possible and get it checked out if it doesn't go away after a couple months. I REALLY hope it goes away soon though. It really sucks feeling everything - laundry especially.. <_<

i had a very severe case of this almost my entire pregnancy...though it was really the only problem i had...i worked on a computer for my job...so that didn't help it!!

it has been 2 yrs. since i've given birth and i still get numb hands when i do certain things, i.e. pushing the stroller, using the hair dryer, typing.

i hope it completely goes away for you!

Mine was a couple months at least and I wore a brace while I was pregnant on and off to try and help. It is miserable but if you are like me it will go away just hang in there.
