Anyone experience pregnancy induced carpal tunnel? I'm self diagnosing here.... I have been having trouble with my hands going painfully numb during the night and I also feel some numbness during the day. This is very bothersome as I can't find a comfortable position to sleep in for very long, I'm sure you all can relate to that! I've spoken to the call in nurse but not my Dr. about it yet. The nurse didn't offer me much help except to say to watch my salt intake. I wonder about going to see a chiropractor or message therapist? I have an appointment with my Dr. next week and can speak to her about it then but...I'm not sure if I can wait that long. Getting up several times at night to use the bathroom is bad enough, now it's like I can't get a full hours sleep in without being awoken by numbness and pain in my arm. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

I had it with the twins, starting around 16 weeks and it lasted until about 4 months pp. I now have it again this time (started about 2 weeks ago).

It is aggravated by swelling so the salt intake advice is okay, but slightly dismissive.

Mine would get so painful at night and was extremely bothersome otherwise. I wear those wrist guard things(can get them at Wal-mart...it has hard plastic along the bottom of the wrist and then velcro to wrap around) on both wrists at night to sleep and that helped/helps some but there wasn't much as far as relieve I could get. My OB told me if it was bad enough the only other main option would be surgery but it wasn't bad enough for me to risk surgery while pregnant.

I hope yours doesn't get too bad and hopefully it'll get better quickly.

Sorry I don't have better advice.

I had it, it disapeared about 4 weeks after delivery which I know doesn't help u now. I did go for regular massage therapy which did help some with the swelling and numbness.

Good luck to you hope it gets better.

My friend had this right now. She just ended up with it a few weeks ago and is completely miserable. Her hands get so numb that she's dropped cups of water on the floor and she's afraid to pick up her 3 yo for fear of dropping her. They are really swollen (she's on watch for pre-e signs too...she's only 30 weeks) and numb most of the time and she wakes up 3-4 times a night with the same pain/numbness you are describing. She's not doing much for it...she can't really get out for massages, etc (plus, she said it hurts to touch them) b/c of being on modified bedrest, so there isn't much they can do at this point.

This is too bad!! I feel really sorry for her! Only 30 weeks...I sure hope things get better. I'm not swollen, only at night when I experience the worst of it do I notice my fingers like sausages, but they go back down after the numbness, pain and tingling goes away. I'm so sorry for your friend!

Oh my gosh it is terrible. Do you fist your hand while you sleep, I know do so I have to wear wrist guards (as pp mentioned). I have not worn them in some time and I have been having issues with my hands. I will have to dig them out.
