Ok, my girls are now 4 months old and I still haven't dared take them out by myself. Mostly it's because I'm scared to death and have no idea how to handle them without help. How do you ladies do it??? Do you leave one baby in the car while you get the other one from the house? That seems scary and unsafe. And how do you get them out once you get somewhere? Step by step directions would be greatly appreciated!

Well I have a garage and that is where I park my van, so yes, I would put one in the car and then go back in for the other one. I would always take my duoglider wherever I went and would snap their carseats in them and go on my way. Actually I still take my duoglider everywhere because no one, but Costco, has double carts.

Do you have a double stroller you can take to put them in?

My situation is a littletricky. We live in a 3 story townhome where the first story is garage and a small "landing" at the end of the staircase. When you leave the garage and go into the house, the only thing to do is go up to the living area...SO...

    1. Take both babies in carrier to the "landing" area.
    2. One babies' seat props the door open so that he can hear me consoling him and I can hear if he's okay for those few seconds while I'm putting baby B into the car (in the garage).
    3. Run super quick to get baby A who was waiting in the landing holding the door open.
    4. Put baby A into the car.
    5. Take a deep breath
    6. GO!

Once we're where we need to be...
    1. Take out the duoglider from the trunk
    2. Push it over to baby A's side and snap him in
    3. Roll over to baby B's side and snap him in as well.
I usually leave the car running just in case it ends up taking me longer than expected. I have keyless entry so I think it's ok.

When it's time to go back home, just reverse the steps listed above. The first time I took them out I was really feeling brave and it went great. The second time was somewhat of a disaster because they were fussy. I think it gets better the more practice you get. Good Luck!

My DD has been toting both babies around since they were six weeks old when she went back to work. Until recently she was able to carry both infant carseats at the same time, she would just put one on the ground at her feet while she snapped the first little guy's seat in the base.

Now that she has to carry them one at a time, she ...
1 - Straps them into their seats at the same time in her living room
2 - Take the diaper bag/purse/etc to the car
3 - Comes back in and gets Baby #1, carries him out to the car and snaps the carseat into the base
4 - Locks the car door
5 - Goes back into the house for Baby #2, locks the house behind her, and away she goes.

She has to do the same thing at the daycare. The car door is always locked when she ducks back into the house or takes Baby #1 into the daycare, and of course she parks as close as possible. It has never been more than a minute and there has never been a problem. I do wonder what she's going to do when she moves the boys into the larger convertible carseats though. But many, many twin (and more!) mommies have managed and I'll know she will too.

It will be interesting to see how other twin families deal with this, especially when the babies are no longer in infant carrier carseats.

We go out all the time plus I have a 3 year old. We live in a house with a detached garage-

I strap the twins into their car seats, pull the car out of the garage, put our bags in the car, carry both babies out onto our back porch (I'll leave them inside once the weather gets cold), have DD wait on the porch also, set our house alarm, carry one baby out to the car along with "herding" older DD to the car. I snap the baby in, buckle older DD into her car seat, then I go get the other baby. If we go somewhere without grocery carts, I always have my stroller. I strap both of the babies in, unload my bags, then go get older DD. If they have grocery carts, I always park close to one. I put one baby in the back of the cart, one in the seat part, then go get DD and she holds my hand. When we get back in the car, older DD is always first. Since I have 3 car seats in my car, the twins are in the middle and next to the window (older DD is next to the other window) so I can put both of them in the car from the same side.

You really have to have a routine, otherwise it's easy to feel out of control.

Use the duoglider when you go out. That will make it much easier!

You CAN do it!! It is tricky, but after a few times you will be a pro! :)
