While I don't think I have car sick kids (it's only happened once in traffic to my son), I am a little nervous about taking a trip to Florida from Chicago. I am preparing myself for the possibility that it could happen.

Any tips or tricks for dealing with it, should it happen?

Mine are almost 13 months, so that can't tell you if it's gonna happen!

We are planning on doing most of the driving at night so I hope that will help!
    Thanks!

My DD gets car sick which she gets from me!!! I found these little wrist braclets that look like the exercise sweat bands braclets from the 80s!! They have a little ball that puts pressure on a pulse point on your wrist and prevents the motion sickness. I found them at Walmart and any local pharmacy.

Neither of my kids have true car sickness, however, my one DD has puked a few times in the car, usually when she's just eaten or when we try to feed her in the car (we did this for the first time ever two weeks ago - twice on a 13 hour car trip. Big mistake).

    My tips:

    1. Do not give milk/formula to your kids within 1/2 hour of getting into the car. This will allow time for liquid to settle down.

    2. Don't feed solid food, sippy cups, or bottles while driving. Stop to eat and run around

    3. Bring many many many changes of clothes, both for your kids and for yourself.

    4. Have receiving blankets or something similar close by so you can mop up any spills

    5. Bring several plastic bags to put puked on items in so they don't smell up your car

All that said... you may be surprised how smoothly the drive goes. I sure was. Other than two throw ups, we had no problems at all.

This is exactly what we used for my DSS when he was younger. It really did work. We were able to get them pretty much at any local pharmacy.

My mom swears by ginger. I don't get car sick, so I don't know. :) Maybe some ginger cookies?

Hopefully the night driving will ease the stomach. They should sleep most of it. We just drove to Ohio & back & the night was the easiest.

    Good suggestions by all.

We keep a package of wipes, a roll of paper towels and several plastic bags in the car for just this thing - after too many times getting caught without the necessary cleanup items. I've heard milk products are a big culprit, also, having a large meal or too much liquid in the tummy. Good luck on the drive.

I agree with all the above. I also give a small amount of children's chewable dramamine. and don't forget the FEBREZE spray just in case!

I swear by dramamine - but I didn't start giving it to my oldest DD until she was 2. ALso, I gave her very litttle to drink - and i would only give her juice or water. Also food was typically very little and carb items - waffle, pretzels, crackers - items that settle a stomach. Good luck on you rtrip. We are taking a 5 hour trip one way soon and it will prove to be interesting I am sure.
