Jay and I are in the middle of a debate. I think the boys are ready to go to their next step car seat.... He is not sure. So to settle it, he told me what he always does.... Post a question on twinstuff.... lol

So here it is, the boys are hanging out over every side of their seats, from the feet to the head, they are just too long!! They are sitting up very well, and I think that they would do well in their new seats..However I know the reccomendations of the AAP say not until they are a year old. There were other conditions though with that that I can't remember off the top of my head...

Anyway, what do you all think??? What did you do??

    Shannon

Also they meet the requirements of the weight limit for the new seat, 22 lbs.... but are an inch or two short on the height.... I think..... But they sit well in it...

For forward facing, they must be one year and at least 20 pounds. But you can go up to a convertible car seat and use it rear facing. They are plenty big to do that. We were in convertibles by about 7-8 months. Good luck with your search.

We did convertible car seats (weight range 5-40 pounds) rear-facing at 8 months.

I agree with pp. They'd be perfect for a rear-facing convertible car seat. You are going to have to get them eventually so why not now? They'll be more comfy and since they at at the weight limit for the infant seat, it will be safer to have them in a convertible.

You can't go to a forward facing seat yet. They have to be 1 year old & 20 pounds. Use a convertible for now. It starts rear facing & than can transition to forward facing when they meet ALL the requirements.

I agree with pp that I would not go forward facing yet either. I though it was 1 year, 22lbs (or is that just in CA...or am I just crazy!). We switched our girls to a rear facing convertible carseat (the britax Marathons) at about 3 months adjusted. I know thats WAY earlier than most do, but my girls hated their carriers and we do a lot of car rides. Changing car seats made a huge difference in our world. Good Luck with your decision.

WE switched about 8 mo as well to convertable that are rear facing. They are great. But they dont' sleep as well in them. Just a thought. Also the bucket seats usually have a weight limit. The graco snugrides are 22 lbs. So if they are over that then they shouldn't be using them any more.

We aren't at the weight limit for the infant carriers yet. they just seem too big for them.... Unfortunately, my MIL already bought us car seats, NOT the convertible kind I asked for so they can;t be rear-facing... I am not finacially able to go out and buy new ones so I will just keep them in the infant carriers until that one year mark or they reach the weight limit. I think on mine its 28 lbs, so we have a ways to go... Hopefully they will make it a few more months!!

There is also a height limit on the bucket seats...check your owners manual. My DD1 was out of her bucket due to height WAY before she could have outgrown it in weight.

Ditto that. My girls also outgrew their seats by height before weight (at 1 year!).

So if they're over the height requirement, I'd return the other seats your MIL got and use that cash to supplement buying convertibles.

We've been using the Evenflo Triumph Advance DLX and the girls are really comfortable, and they didn't break the bank.

I second that suggestion. We switched N & M over at 6 mos due to length limits. They fit better in the convertible but like a pp said, they don't sleep as comfortably. Poor things with their heads all hanging forward. They also are less likely to stay/fall back to sleep once they get woken up by removing them from the seats.

I have the graco snugride and I just researched this so I knew, weight was 22lbs and height was 29 inches. I think that DD and DS will hit the height restriction before the weight restriction. I already have their next seats, but have not installed them yet. But I will use them rear facing until it is safe to turn them forward facing!

My two were too long for the infant seats at 6 months. So convertible car seats it was!

i must say i agree with everyone else. on where your MIL bought you the new car seats but you are not happy with them can you exchange it? get the one you wanted or just tell your MIL you need to exchange it because it doesn't fit right or something so she doesn't think you just don't like it.

i am looking around at the convertible seats now and i am not sure whch ones to get i am between the ones that even converts to a booster for up to 100lbs. and that fits infants to 100lbs. rear and forward facing.

i think DH is out voted  sorry DH but she is right if the height or weight is over limits or even if they just look plain uncomfortable. try it and if it doesn't work you can always change back to the way it was.
