i've been over and over and over my baby registry checklist and i have no idea what i'm doing...

first of all, i have no clue what some of the stuff is for, how to use it, or if i even need it (why are there 78 different types of bottles?!)

right now, i'm trying to decide on which car seats to register for.....infant only? convertible?....i like the convertible idea, but they don't look like you can take them off the base and carry them around the way the infant ones do. does that mean i need infant seats AND convertible seats for later? i want to be able to take the seats off the base and use them as carriers from the car to the house, store, wherever....do convertibles do that?

    help.....

I have the infant ones and just recently purchased the convertible ones. the infant ones are the ones that come off of the base where the convertible ones stay in the car. My two are almost 10months and I am just about to retire the infant seats.

    Hope that helps!

You can't carry around a convertible car seat, no. If you want to be able to do that, then you should go with the carriers. Personally, I think it's easier. Plus, you can snap it into a stroller and go. But, if you do that, you will need to buy a convertible later on. Most carriers go up to 20lbs+ so depending on their weights at birth, you've got at least six months. Our boys are 10 months old and still fit in them.

On the other hand, buying a convertible saves you some money in the long run. They'll last longer and you can spend the extra money on buying a good quality seat. If you've got a double stroller that reclines well, then there's no need to use something that snaps into it.

Really, it's up to you. I don't want to make the decision harder or scare you!

    HI hunny!!!

Yes, you will need infant and convertable car seats. I'm a regular kind of person with simple ideas. We got the Graco Snug ride Car Seats and a matching stroller that will hold 2 car seats. Love it. We then got a side by side Jeep stoller that is perfect for out door outings. We love the avent bottles because they sell a sippy transition thing. Very cool. Do you want me to look at your registry and see if I see anything important that you are missing or give my opinion about things we found useless.

My twins are 15 months old now and we made due with regular things. I'm expecting my second set now. WOW! What are the chances. i live in Texas too I live in Houston, what about you?

I know!!! This drove me crazy and ultimately I ended up getting two infant carriers and then when they were about 9 months old I got them two convertible carseats. To answer your question, no you can't take the convertable seats out and carry them. I think you will definitely want to get infant carseats to start with. I think having something to carry them in is a necessity. If you can get two convertable carseats at your shower, get them! If not you can always put the money aside and buy them as you go. Try not to stress about it and start off with the infants carrier seats (I got 2 Graco Snugrides) reasonably priced and safe and look good. There are soooo many things that I thought I had to have that I really didn't get much use out of. As far as bottles I also used Avent to start with and they were fine but I got tired of constantly washing bottle and switched to the playtex nursers which have the disposable liners and then I didn't have to have 8 million bottles to wash and sitting out all the time.

Have you seen this Sticky at the top of the expecting forum? It has an excellent list of things to register for (and how many). I used it when I was pregnant and found it to be very helpful. As far as bottles go, I wouldn't buy too many. Before my girls came home I went out and bought a TON of Avent bottles, and neither one of them would take to them. I would just buy a couple and make sure they like them first. GL!!

lol, I totally know how you feel! When we started our registry and this whole process I was clueless! We ended up getting the Graco Quattro Tour Duo stroller so we got the infant car seats that match and snap in. We got the safeseat which holds up to 30lbs-so they can use it for up to a yr.
oh, and I especially loved your comment about the bottles. Seriously, WHY are there 78 different types of bottles?!
Someone mentioned Avent bottles...just wanted to let you know they are releasing their BPA free bottles Friday...we are going with those.
