I'm looking for recommendations for car seats or boosters with harness for taller kids. My twins won't be 4 until June, and it is doubtful they will reach the 40 lb minimum for transitioning to standard boosters. Even if they do, I would like to keep them in a 5-pt harness as long as possible. However, they are getting too tall for their current convertible car seats. They have the Eddie Bauer convertible car seats and I have completely run out of strap on my daughter's seat. I can barely get it pulled out enough to get her into it!

Car Seat.org Here's a post I found on the carseat.org site, comparing the difference in a Graco Nautilus and a Britax Regent. Personally I'd go with the Nautilus, it's what I have for my twins and it's cheaper than the Regent :) Hope it helps!

We have eveflo symphony 65. Below is the height and weight info. My kids are skinny and tall as well (31lbs, 40").
    Weight & Height Limits:
Rear-facing 5-35 lbs (new e3 model is 5-40 lbs); top of head must be at least 1″ below top of headrest in either of the 2 lowest headrest positions
Forward-facing 20-65 lbs; at least 1 year old, 50″ tall or less
Booster 30-100 lbs; at least 3 years old, less than 57″ tall

But I think u better off with Graco Nautilus:
    Forward-Facing 5 point harness mode:
    Weight requirements: 20 – 65 lbs.
    Height requirements: 27″ – 52″
    Belt-positioning booster mode:
    Weight requirements: 30 – 100 lbs.
    Height requirements: 38″ – 57″
    Backless booster mode:
    Weight requirements: 40 – 100 lbs.
    Height requirements: 40″ – 57″

We had the Graco Nautilus Car Seats and my kids are both tall. They have been in the Graco's since about 3 years old and we just moved them to backed boosters last week and were very happy with them (and the kids were comfortable in them). They still had room in the Graco's, but we were all getting tired of the 5 point harness at this point.

It goes up to 57 inches in convertable mode/5 pt harness and up to 120 lbs for booster seat.

I have the older style that was under the name sunshine radian. The brand name changed. My son is above the 95th percentile in height and under 40 lbs at his 4 year check up. He still has room to grown.

    I love their carseats.

You might want to look into the Harmony Defender, too. It's only around $100, goes up to 65 lbs harnesses and has reasonably high harness slots. It then transitions into a high-back booster and then a backless booster so it should last for a while. It's available at Walmart. It gets a lot of love on the Car Seats for the Littles forum on FB (great resource btw), which has a lot of very experienced techs on it.

In the same boat this time last year, we went with the Evenflo Maestro (times 2, of course).

I don't know if anyone is looking at this thread any longer, but wanted to update that I have decided against the Valco Baby stroller with Joey seat as you can't use the Joey seat if you are using the car seat adaptors. My game plan is to have really light car seats (the small Graco Snugrides for babies 4-22 pounds) and use them for convenience in getting the babies in and out of cars while sleeping. I hope to do this for 6 months, maybe a little less, ... have to see how things go................
