I haven't posted since my twins were newborns but they are now 26 1/2 months and I'm having issues with my son and his car seat. No matter how tight I get the straps over the shoulder, he can slide down the clip that connects the 2 shoulder straps across the chest and get his whole upper body free from the straps. It is so frustrating and I've researched online but cannot find anything that can be attached to prevent that clip from sliding down. I've thought about sewing a big button on each strap just below the clip but was reluctant to put something so permanent in case we need to intentionally slide that clip down for any reason. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Trying to make him understand how that is a big "no-no" is not getting us anywhere.

For us, anytime the kids messed with their carseat, we stopped. Like literally, pulled over on the side of the interstate. And we sat there until they fixed it and left it alone. I think they are probably old enough that it will only take you a few "stops" to make him understand that playing with it is not acceptable.

I've also heard about putting duct tape on that clip to keep it together. I never had to do that myself.

I agree with Danielle. I also think the duct tape would be a better idea. Sewing anything to the strap will likely weaken the integrity of the webbing making it more likely to break in a collision. Have you tried invoking the police? That impressed the bejeebus out of my girls when I told them it wasn't *my* rule, it was the police officer's rule that they'd be breaking.

    Duct tape.

I tried the pulling over, the police rule, the if we get in a car wreck you will end up in an ambulance going to the hospital, and even said you would get squiched.

My kids used to do that. But they are afraid of cops lol. They have been told if they did bad things or didn't buckle up, cops would take them away. So they always buckle up and stay in. I always have cop siren clip in my iPhone lol.

Once my boy got so upset and tried to get out. We saw 2 cop cars in the parking lots. We pulled in and let the cops had the talk with them. From then, no more problem!!! They even told me "mommy seat belt on". I think u just have to deal with it. Gl!

I think you've gotten really good advice. My son has been able to get out of his car seat for awhile. We used the "stop" technique quite a lot, a few reminders while buckling him in ("if you get out, we won't be able to go [wherever we were headed]" and "it's the law, the police will pull us over"). I never messed with the strap or buckle itself. It has worked (for the most part). I want to tell you the good news...you no longer have to worry about getting him out of his carseat when it's time to get out of the car (big timesaver). And once he gets really good at it (like DS) he can do it for his sibling (AWESOME ADVANTAGE!)
