This may seem like a simple question but I need help in figuring out how to get 3 car seats in my Honda Odessey minivan. I have 2 captain's seats with a small removable seat in between. I have a full 3rd row.

I am wondering if I can put all 3 on the 2nd row - with the captain's seats and that small seat?? It seems like the small is kinda flimsy and I have worries about it. I should probably call Honda on that one.

My other option is to put my 2 year old twins - who still need help getting in and out of their car seats into the 3rd row. I will then remove a captain's seat from the 2nd row so I have some room to get into the back to buckle the boys in. I will put the baby in the remaining captain's seat and leave the small seat for the diaper bag?

If you have a new baby and 2 year old twins and a minivan - what do YOU do? What should I do???

    Thanks.

    Erin

After trying a few different positions we went with one twin in the third row & one twin in front of him in the second row. We put the infant carrier on the oppisite side with the middle seat open. I have a Durango, so a little differnt than the mini van. My twins also can do & undo their 5 point harness car seats. I hope you find something that works for you.

I have a Durango too - how does the twin in the 3rd get back? Does he/she crawl over the middle seat? In my Durango, only the two sides in the middle row fold down to get to the 3rd row -

I have everybody in the middle row - 3 carseats side by side!!

Gosh...consider yourself lucky for the captains seats. I have 2 row seats. I am trying to figure this out too. Getting 2 in the 3rd row isnt good for me either because the one side is almost impossible for me to reach. I keep wondering to myself if I can buy a captains seat...and do what you mentioned...one seat in the first row and have the 2 in the back, so I can get in and out...plus it leaves more room for packing things.

I would do that config..that makes the most sense.

Just called Honda. My 2006 van can only have 2 seats in the back row and 2 seats in the captain's seats. Those are the only approved spots with Latch and anchors.

So, I have to put the twins in the back row and the new baby in the first row and then climb back to buckle and unbuckle.......

Also - for the PP. My girlfriend could fit all 3 car seats across her Honda Odyssey first row. I am not sure her make or model but she still has all 3 across and they are all regular car seats at this point. Maybe you could get a full size bench instead of captains chairs?????

I knew thought of stuff like this when I got Pg with #3. Just glad I didn't try sooner and have them closer together!!!

I have a Chrysler minivan with the fold down seats. I do what you described above: My big girls (2 and 4) are in the back row. The baby (1) is in the second row passenger side seat. The second row driver side seat is folded down so I have access to all three seats to climb in and buckle all of them up. Even though the baby is on the passenger side, I never use that door. I just climb in the driver's side to buckle and unbuckle everyone. I'm only 4'8", so climbing in is no problem!

One of the only times being 5'8" is an issue !!!!!!

I have an 03 oddy and twins plus and older girl. I have one twin in his carseat in middle row bucket with LATCH and the other in the 3rd row middle with seatbelt and tether (he loves to climb in back and buckle himself in - of course I always check the harness though :D ). No latch in my 3rd row but I get a good tight fit with seat belt and tether. Then dd is in the other bucket seat in 2nd row passenger in her britax booster. I dont think the carseats HAVE to be installed where LATCH and tether are. It just depends upon which you get a better install with with the particular carseat.

So I think the easiest (if the safest too) is baby in middle bucket seat in 2nd row (remove the middle seat in 2nd row if able), one twin next to him/her in 2nd row and other twin in 3rd row outboard either side. HTH

We have an 06 Odyssey. But we are the opposite of you. We used the captains chairs and the middle back seat.

I have an Odyssey too and I do exactly as you described. I have taken out the captain's chair behind the front passanger so I have access to the two older one's in the third row and the baby is in the captain's chair behind the driver. I find it works fine for us.
We discussed getting a second vehicle that could fit all 5 of us too but really we only need one for all 5 of us and our second vehicle is mostly a commuter one, with 2 additional car seats in the back
